Jada Pinkett-Smith Boycott Influences Oscar Nominations?

Last year actress Jada Pinkett-Smith organized an Academy Awards boycott to protest the lack of diversity in the nominations [click here if you missed that].

Looks like the boycott was a success...

This year three Black led films, Fences, Hidden Figures and Moonlight, have all snagged nominations for Best Picture as well as Best Adapted Screenplay.

Also Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis and Naomie Harris have been nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Mahershala Ali has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category.

See the full list of nominations here.

That was not because of Jada....Black movies this year are just better. Straight Outta Compton and Concussion were no matches to the movies out this year.

The Academy is like Jada who?
Like 11:47 said, the quality of the films improved. I'm still annoyed that LaLa crap received so many noms.

Too bad I had ZERO interest in seeing Fences, Moonlight or Hidden Figures. None of the movies this year really interested me. The fact that Will is nowhere to be found this year is telling.

Always supporting. But I'll try to not lament on that. Congrats to the nominees, and hopefully one of them will best Lala over best picture.

These comments remind me of Fox News saying the Charlestown massacre wasn't race related, but an attack on Christianity.lolol Were just as bad as they are some times. Jada sparked change in the academy voting structure. The end. Doesn't make her the Norma Rae of Hollywood hope and change, but indeed her speaking out ignited things.

@12:52

I heard Birth of a nation was a really good movie. Hate Parker is a decent actor but he didn't play ball. Even worse,he showed zero humility in regard to the situation. I'm sure if he had pink toes, he would've received a nom.

Fortunately, Viola Davis, Denzel Washington and the other black nominees can't act at all. YES!!! It was the boycott!!! The fact that they are great actors had NOTHING to do with it. YES!!! The boycott get's black actors nominations they DON't deserve.
