I'm lost on the shot and dead part....I thought that guy from louisianna freddia was the inspiration?

She used some of maya's vocals too. "What happened at new Orleans" or something like that and "bitch I'm back by popular demand. People who used to watch his videos knew this.

see...this is the exact reason why sampling aka "copy and paste" is not done as much these days...

it's just not the thing to do anymore. started becoming obsolete about 5 years ago. sometimes, people never get paid or want to be paid more after the fact. nobody is trying to pay out millions over a 10 second sample they could be sued for. beyonce is always late....and to make matters worse, her husband is supposed to be a rapper. he's not looking out for her? like --- ever?

in today's music, you need to be more original and creative. beyonce needs to take initiative to either grow a mind or retire... her mediocrity is appalling. the entire lemonade project was a copy paste fiasco. i'm offended for mya's family.

Did you intentionally rip off a dead black man, Beyonce?

I think sampling is great, and its usually works out well but like the dude dead so you know what the big deal

she copies everything she has ever done. She is one of those artist (used lightly) who shows up and sings other people words through a machine, dances other peoples steps, etc... I don't understand the big deal with her. Yes if her makeup is done right and her wig is glued on she can look ok in some pics....

Being 100... Those video clips had no copyright or trademark on them... She technically doesn't owe the family anything. Aside from that, they're asking $20,000,000 for clips less than 10-15seconds long. UNREAL Lol. They can't request royalties from something that isn't trademarked or doesn't have a copyright. Now out of the kindness of her heart, yeah, it would've been nice if she reached out to them and offered a decent lump sum but again, she technically doesn't even have to do that.

Um what? Just because someones dead don't mean you can steal from them. I hope his family get their money.

I'm an engineer. Most songs are sampled if you are gonna use the law of sample clearance. Drum sounds now count because people can add up every snare hit for a song ownership percentage. Problem is the people who would and should sue cannot afford to and the ones who get sued would rather risk the lack of inaction. Samples are the best part of black music and will remain forever.

P.S. this is not a sample. She stole his actual voice. Bey will settle.

YouTube is currently considered "published upon upload". You are mistaken.

Bey is gonna have to pay.

Good for them. You know good and hell well if Beyonce was dead and somebody used her likeness in any form her husband and family would be suing the hell out of them.

That was Mya with that one line and Big Freedia did the rest... Mya's folks already were compensated for that so why they acting like they never got paid? Plus, y'all act like he was super huge and really had some money somewhere, talking about his estate. Boy bye...

So can I get sued for putting his video on my Facebook? Since YouTube let's me copy and paste it without the family's permission? I'm sure bey lawyers had already cleared or told her she won't have to pay. She gets sued every 4 hrs so good luck with getting that 20 mil.

You cannot be sued because your Facebook does not directly earn you a royalty and keeps the YouTube player format. However, if you download the video and post it to your own page, yes you can be sued. Publishing and copyright and "promotional use" are different beasts. Beys lawyers are banking on there gain to loss ratio of risk. Don't know what bey will pay, but if she just put vocals on without signed consent there is a case.

By "your own page" I mean a monetized personal Web page. Website. Business page. Etc.

Lol! This family will get paid in dust like the others. He added absolutely NOTHING to the song! Had it been somebody I was kin to no I wouldn't have sued, well unless I was broke!

Exactly! That man has a kid who should have benefited from this. Why? Because it's the right thing to do. Legally and morally. Why can't this woman do right? Why does she make it a point to always try to get over, especially to those who look up to her, admire her and foolishly think so highly of her? Even if she has made a career out of "Copy and Paste", it doesn't give her the right to be so downright mean and disrespectful. She would never let shit like this go down if the same things she does to others were being done to her.

Re-read the last 4 words you typed.

The thing is nobody but locals and a few youtubers knew who the fuck he was prior too her video. Compensation is monies he would've earned but took a loss that she gained from and only haters would disagree that aside from his image and voice for a few seconds (to homeage); he contributed 0 % of substance to that song. If anything she took his name from local to global; thus making his legacy famous!

Yawll saw it, he wouldn't have earned $200,000.00 off of that video, let alone $20 million! What she needs to do is have her lawyer pay what he made off of that video the last year he was alive and pay that amount until his kid turns 18 (and that's out of kindness). That video was released at the minimum 6 years ago (because that's how long he has been dead). Prior to two years ago (Pre Beyonce's video) nobody but locals knew about it or watched it! #fact

I suppose the best way to know how much his inclusion is worth is to assess what he's earned on Youtube since it seems that's the platform where he predominantly marketed his "whatevers". Then break in down into timeframes down to 10 secs X the number of viewers on Youtube = rate X number of albums Beyonce sold.

Side note: I was wondering what they fused Beyonce's face with in the frame shown above. Now I know. They blended her face with his it appears.

Also never heard of him until this controversy.

@4:18 & @5:09

Neither of you understand "intellectual property law". Most people don't. And please don't think the word "intellectual" is a shot at you. It is a designation for intangible ownership.

IF she has competent lawyers then they'd subpoena YouTube's records to see what the views were before she mentioned him to after she did and they wouldn't have to pay a dime!

Beyonce is spoiled who wanna be down but live to make it with music from suburban life and got away with it. That's why she tells you all to bow down and teach her followers to call you all a "hater." I think la tavia and latoya from the oringinal destiny child called this.

Why ya'll support this spoiled brat shit? Now we got this whiner Trump in office.Beyonce need to give credit where credit is due for everyone .
