Harvard Names Rihanna Humanitarian of the Year

Pop star Rihanna named Humanitarian on the Year by Harvard University...

From The Harvard Gazette
The popular singer Rihanna has been named the 2017 Harvard University Humanitarian of the Year, and will come to campus to accept the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award at a ceremony next Tuesday (Feb. 28).
“Rihanna has charitably built a state-of- the-art center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados,” said S. Allen Counter, the Harvard Foundation’s director.
“She has also created the Clara and Lionel Foundation Scholarship Program [named for her grandmother and grandfather] for students attending college in the U.S. from Caribbean countries, and supports the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen Project, a multiyear campaign that will provide children with access to education in over 60 developing countries, giving priority to girls and those affected by lack of access to education in the world today.”

That's beautiful. Barbados needs support; Many island countries are shanty towns outside of the tourist areas when generational poverty is a real issue. No snark today. Only love and peace.

Now, this is truly giving back, from the heart. Something she feels. The recognition is well deserved.

As well it was honored by those who do the same. The reason Beyonce did not get this award is because those that Know ...Know....and they Know Beyonce is Superficial.

Some one tried to argue that Beyonce was very involved in Humanitarian causes, the kind she displayed in Lemonade...Lemonade was all marketing and what was a hot topic at the moment

Beyonce is beyond Stingy and Self Centered, she has never champoined a real cause , other than demanding an award.... no cause is more important than her...and it shows.

What Akon did.....What Rihanna did...is real....its really making a difference

Now...Beyonces team visits this blog quite often. So I say to you when when read this, it will make you angry, it will make you lash out and try to list all the superficial, PR Marketing and Image Enhancing tax write off Schemes attached to Beyonce.

I understand...but what you really should be doing is trying to convince BEYONCE not us....to do some real honest soul searching......

This makes me so proud. No matter what people say about her or her lifestyle, this speaks louder than any of the negativity. I applaud her efforts, especially because she seems like she's done so much without trying to get fanfare from it. It really let's you know it's coming from a genuine place. We all need to do our part in helping our people, not just celebrities. However, it's nice to know she's doing her part. Much love and respect!

@11:33. I was hoping no one would turn this into a discussion about Beyonce. We should just be focused on giving Rihanna the props she deserves. However, I did read your post and just couldn't NOT respond. I understand people dislike Beyonce and to each his own. But it is plain wrong to mischaracterize her. I know for a fact that she does charity work, without seeking publicity for it. One of my best friends sister ran away at age 11 and became a victim of the sex trafficking industry. I didn't know about how horrible and wicked it is out there for young girls until my best friends family dealt with it first hand. You cannot imagine the horrors she was put through at 11. Well she eventually was rescued and has tried hard to put her life back together despite all the trauma she's suffered with the help of an excellent organization called GEMS in New York. There was a documentary made about GEMS and some of the girls there on Showtime called Very Young Girls. Anyone who hasn't seen it, please do. It is important to know for the safety of our kids and young women in our family how these predators get girls involved in human sex trafficking. It is so sad but the reality of many of our young sisters out here. So many people judge strippers and Instagram "hoes" not knowing or understanding how they got there. Anyway, the documentary was so moving and so sad. I couldn't watch it and not care about these girls, regardless of their upbringing and background, especially knowing what happened to my best friends sister who came from a good home. I remember crying trying to figure out what I could do to help. Well I found out later through my best friend that Beyonce also happened to see the documentary. She very quietly contacted GEMS and met with many of the girls there and talked to them for hours about what happened to them and how they got there. They said she cried listening to their stories for hours. It meant so mich to them that she really cared. She then gave a huge donation to GEMS and has helped them ever since. She apparently has stayed in touch with some of the girls she spoke with and helped them directly as well. She did all of this outside of the press. I liked her as an artist but this made me love her as a person. All I'm saying is yes we all talk junk about celebs (I'm guilty of this as well) and Beyonce is one of people's favorite to bash. However, what you said is simply not true. I feel the need to at least share what I know she did for GEMS. What she has done for GEMS changed many young girls lives. Girls from our community that no one else cares/cared about. Now let's keep the focus back where it belongs...on congratulating Rihanna! That's all I got.

Good for her and she gives with little to no fanfare. I'm not a fan of her music but Rihanna is one of a few celebrities I like as a person, flaws and all.

God she is BEAUTIFUL! Man this is NOT A BEYONCE POST! Just give Rihanna her props! Writing essays like "Well don't discredit Beyonce" WHO CARES this ain't about her! Let Rih Rih shine! Damn!

You all hate Beyonce so much that you are praising this talentless, satanic, dope addict prostitute. Damn you all really hate Bey and I'm not even a Bey fan and say this.

^But u hate Rhi so much to downplay her accomplishments. If you say rhi is that, then may be just like too or more, Who knows. I wouldn't care for any Bey mentions on a Rhi post but if you so mad, then skim to the coachella post. I'm just here to congratulate Rhi and I wish the commenters do the same without mentioning Bey

Beyonce got involved in GEMS because her label was involved the Movie and Net Flicks PR Campaign. She was added to the campaign for publicity.

Her involvement was documented for Publicity by on a Industry PR Website called PR WEB.COM from there released to thousands of publications and websites.

Your whole long narrartive about Beyonce stumbling upon GEMS on her own and quietly getting involved is not true. As well she has spoken about it publically during 'BEYONCE' promotion runs.

As I stated the first time .."what you really should be doing is trying to convince BEYONCE not us....to do some real honest soul searching"......

Beyonce only does "charity" when she is promoting something she is doing or trying to sell...

Just like Kayne said...she demands an award..or she is not showing..for award shows

She has a very fake persona to the public....if she is so caring and senstive like 12:33 is attempting to present then why has she NOT ONE SINGLE TIME TOLD THE BEY HIVE TO LAY OFF BULLYING PEOPLE...NOT ONCE....EVER.....

There is no debating with Rihanna's low IQ fans. It's like debating with white trash Trump supporters.

This is nothing but a very high honor, and just look at those who earned the Honor before Rihanna earned it. This Honor beats any other Honor anybody could get for the entire year. This is how you give back, and not to brag but Rihanna Helped Mac earn their 50 Million that went toward Aids/Hiv. Keep up the good work Girl.

This is one of those Honors you can't buy, You earn it with your Kindness and your money you Donated.

@9.28 pm. Lol. Can trashyonce even speak English without sounding like Forrest Gump?

That being said, I'm so looking forward to the Queen's speech on the 28th. We all know she is articulate and eloquent.

This is what you call truly giving back to your community. Education will definitely give these young people in the Caribbean a chance and hope for a brighter future. Can you imagine if all of our African American born celebrities and pro athletes dedicated a percentage of their money to rebuilding and upgrading HBCU's and providing scholarships to under privileged inner city youth across the U.S?

Rihanna stay winning even with all the hate and industry snubs and manipulation. What they fail to understand is she transcends beyond the music industry. She is a true star, a movement, a global figure. With all the roadblocks and negativity that gets thrown at her to be bring her down, she has managed to stay on top, winning and shining like a true star. Harvard status baby.

She is showing all the show offs how to give back, and she has did this great thing which has ,made History as the First woman to do it, and the first woman of color, what a way to go girl. Now let the haters choke on the truth about how Rihanna cares about others, not just herself, and in a big way.
