NBC Blindsided by Nick Cannon Resignation

Yesterday Nick Cannon announced he would not be back for another season of America's Got Talent claiming he was being unfairly disciplined by network execs over his racially charged stand-up comedy special on Showtime [click here if you missed that].

Nick may NOT get his wish...

Insiders tell Page Six that NBC execs were completely blindsided by Nick Cannon's announcement and claim they have not been able to get in contact with him.

The source also says Nick is under contract with AGT and that they intend to hold him to it.

Dumb ass willing to give up financial freedom and security so that he can promote a message of what? The freedom to say "nigga" w/out the network bosses coming for his neck? Nick Cannon has never been that type of comedian. He will never be Rock, Pryor or even Harvey. He's corny. Always has been and always will be.

8:02 Don't you know money is a tool they use to control us? They pay black celebs millions every year but very few have actual financial freedom or hold any position of power. Only Black celeb I can think of who has any real power is Oprah.
Same goes for us regulars. They pay us well but very few actually get titles and stock options. At least give the guy some credit for standing up and trying to take back some of his power even if it is too late.

Yeah, I never considered nickelodeon to be a comedian. His first stand-up show was trash! He's a comedic/dramatic actor yes but comedian, NO!

I bet Ryan Seacrest will wind up hosting the show. It's probably what they wanted all along. Smh.

Nick has been there a long time. I think he can stay and ask for a raise. A huge raise. Because they are gonna pay Ryan Seacreast double what Nick makes....

He should finish his contract , and bend them over...

Can't he get a haircut instead of wearing a turban?

He's lucky Mariah pulled strings to get him a position at any job now he wants to be pro militiant!? He is going to need a job for his new girlfriend and baby. He can't depend on Mariah divorce settlement to make ends meet.

There’s something else going on here if you read between the lines. The fact that his agent didn’t formally inform NBC tells me he didn’t tell his agent, or business staff/business manager which means he might have known there were entities at work that would have spun it as a “firing” had he given them the heads up. Please don’t forget what happened to Dave Chappelle. Nick Cannon is not even on Dave’s level creativity-wise and you see how Dave was discredited.

NBC is moving to the right and another contract means that he would have to keep his mouth shut on a number of things coming down the pipeline re: restrictions on civil rights and civil liberties. Remember that celebrities often get a heads up before things happen and Nick’s statement was very telling if you read between the lines and look at the bigger picture. This is beyond principles and money, Nick did not want to end up having to run to Africa and disconnect his phone.

Yup, 9:34. I sure did read between the lines and read the whole statement. The language he used sounded like he knew they were going to try and "Chappelle" him soon by saying he was "crazy" or "unstable" or even plant something in his dressing room to fire him and make so he couldn't get a job anywhere again. Basically he ran for his life and I can't fault the brother. Smart move/He's smart to listen to his mentors. #dickgregory

^^^Interesting he used the term "team" in the statement. Remember it was Dave Chappelle's "team" that first said he was crazy when he ran to Africa and his former "best friend" and writing partner said he was crazy too. Run, Nick. Ruuuuun!

Turban and fur aside, Nick is taking a stand and that's commendable. Also, many of you are making good points and seeing the forest for the trees. Keep your eyes open, y'all!

I support Nick 100 percent. I am extremely proud of him. Stand for something or fall for anything. Money is not the end all be all of life.

There is no reason to read between the lines! Have any of you asked yourselves this: After eight seasons, he wants to take a principled stand. Yea right.....Or is this just another way to silence and control an outspoken voice who often battles the establishment? Or could it be that Nick just violated the terms of his contract and AGT is just exercising its remedy for such a breach? Good grief. Another Hollywood celebrity with a over sized view of his importance... is there anyone who watches AGT to see this guy who walks the performers out onto the stage?

^^^You're back trolling again? Yes, after 8 years he's taking a stand and by default violating his contract. Didn't someone tell you to go away yesterday. We all know what you're up to and trolling on a Black blog is keeping you from exploring your full potential. We are not your enemy, but if you were really about it you'd go out and troll someone of color face to face. Please, just stop. Go away. Peace.

Oh my gosh the troll is back? And you can tell it's them because their vocabulary is limited/the syntax and sentence structure is ALWAYS the same. If you're going to troll, at least get a thesaurus.

Actually Troller is correct. This is simply a breach of contract. Nick knows he can now be fired so he went public to get sympathy and spin gullible audiences. It's intelligent considering NBC has recently been known for being savages for the way they handled Tamron Hall firing. All of this approved by Matt Lauer of course. Fire Nick and Savannah Guthrie should be watching her back.

Don’t believe the headlines you are reading. Nobody has quit! And nobody has been fired!

Yet.

This TV host messed up… but he can’t fix his mess the normal way!

He hasn’t quit and he hasn’t been fired. The headlines are bull.

The legal issue isn’t even in question here. First of all, he is under contract, so he CAN’T just up and quit.

Secondly, he violated his contract, so he CAN be fired.

HE KNOWS ALL THIS.

He’s in a bad position, but he can’t get out of it the normal way (which is to apologize to the network and change the content). If he does that, he’ll probably be accused of selling out and lose face.

So he took a legal issue and turned it into a social issue to get public support. He’s acting like he’s on some moral high ground (Racism! First amendment!) because he wants other people to jump in and accuse the company of racism and threaten to boycott and use all sorts of SJW tactics.

This isn’t a social issue. This is a legal issue. It’s a simple contract violation that could have been remedied, but now he’s twisting it and making it ten times bigger and taking this scorched earth approach that makes the company look bad and makes it hard to deal with him in an amicable fashion.

Oh, and here’s something interesting: We know for a FACT that he wants to keep this job because it’s an easy gig with a big paycheck. We just all need to figure out a way to allow him to save face without burning the company.
