Jay Z Sued for Using Roc Nation Logo

Rapper Jay Z is being sued for licensing the Roc Nation Logo which he no longer owns apparently...

According to reports Iconix Brand Group claims they purchased the Roc Nation logo for $204 million and did not authorize deals for Jay Z use the logo on Major League Baseball apparel including caps, T-Shirts and hoodies.

Iconix, is suing Jay Z, MLB, New Era, Lids, and The San Fransisco Giants for $10 million in damages.

But I thought he was a business man, with multiple streams of income including copyrights?

Roc Nation is his base, um-m-m Lends itself to ask: did he ever own it or was it the full property of Live Nation?

Anonymous said...

^He is only the face of the company. He has no real stake of Roc Nation. Live nation does touring. So, him being sued means that hes using the company's logo without their permission and not paying the licensing fees.

He's such a dummy I swear. He sold rocawear (roc apparel) to iconix and they were just waiting on him to throw that roc on something big so they could come up. This is the price you pay for not taking a business course people. Roc nation is also apart of Roc apparel and iconix owns it, I also did a database search and found that roc nation is also owned by live nation as well. He's a dummy... anyone else care to Google around with these terms and find more. I lost interest in the first 15 mins. Can't believe how stupid he is when it comes to business. He loses every time.

They paid him $204 million for Roc Nation?

The same Roc Nation that makes clothing like Apple Bottom jeans and Baby Phat?

^^^You really think Jay-Z don't understand business. Have a seat. This man is worth millions, he understands business and I doubt this lawsuit will go anywhere.

If Jay understood business, he wouldn't have bought TIDAL. Now YOU sit your stanning ass down.

@10:31 let alone buy tidal for twice the amount than its initial worth. He is making tidal his final attempt to make up all his losses

Jay stays getting sued so clearly he is not a good business man. All his failed business ventures prove that.

I am slow when it comes to these business transactions so let me get this straight, Jay Z was making money by selling a product he doesn't actually own?
If so, could the companies he sold the product to also turn around and sue him?

LOL at the hate up in this thread. Jay sold Roc-a-wear & its marks for $204M.....who doesn't understand biz?!?!
Emory is the one that's getting all these hats & accessories with the paper plane logo produced. And quiet as kept he's done a great job at getting that paper plane logo off the ground & making that shit got!!! His efforts only helps Iconix promote the newer, fresher logo. I'm just surprised they(Jay & team) didn't cut a side deal with Iconix to remain the face of Marketing.

9:47 what evidence is there besides him telling us on his records that Jay-z does understand business? Every time I hear about him and "business" he's fronting for something, being a "partner" owning 1/19th of 1 percent stakes in NBA teams that equal 125k, getting sued, or not being able to make Tidal jump off. You're naive if you really believe this figurehead has any type of business sense. All smoke and mirrors.

Shot out to Eddie C. Brown, Robert F. Smith, and Richard Parsons who are REAL Black businessmen!

This lawsuit combined with Tidal's lawsuits (Prince Estate, Birdman $50mil, former employees and etc.) explains why Bey & Jay couldn't buy that $120 mil home that was reported on last week. Let's not forget Bey's lawsuit from the Formation song. This news also explains why she's out so much during this so called pregnancy. You know they have to distract from the bad news and the twin pregnancy is great for tax purposes. It's beyond time for Bey & Jay to let the smoke & mirrors go because more people are seeing them for who they really are (frauds, greedy, backstabbers and mostly horrible business people). P.S. Bey's dad said he didn't auction off those Destiny Child items; therefore, who did? Was it Bey to help pay Jay's bills?

JAYz flops:

Shall I go on? Who wants more?

Why does Beyonce continue to stay with JayZ? It can't be love because love don't pay the bills! Did she not learn anything from her mother's struggles with her father's bad business deals, infidelity, and just him being a snake? Since Beyonce married JayZ her image became more raunchy, braggadocios, she's a trap rapper instead of a singer, and I suspect she's added drugs to her alcoholism (y'all are well aware of those drinking rumors and pics of her smoking). Beyonce can extend her fame by filing for divorce, getting her coins on her own (maybe go independent), and be a great role model for her children by not staying with a leach of a husband for social status. He's going to be her downfall. It has already started (she can't make a record without 70 writers on one song and countless samples, fashion is just tragic, no hits since Single Ladies, no home, can't stop touring (150+ shows a year. You know she gotta dig deep to survive that), and her fanbase is dwindling due to those mean Beehive members (she need to tell them to tone it down because their nastiness reflects onto her). I hope JayZ don't kill her off to pay his bills. Kanye said he got killers.

HERE IS ANOTHER LIST OF FAILED JAYZ VENTURES said...

40/40 Club:
– Clubs in NYC, Atlantic City. The Las Vegas club, at 24,000 square feet, opened in the hotel-casino Palazzo in January 2008, with more than 80 plasma TVs. It closed eight months later when, after disappointing traffic, Jay-Z sold the lease back to the hotel. It was tuned into a race and sports book, with a specialty restaurant.

**Brooklyn Nets:
-Paid $4.5M in December 2004 for a minority stake in the team. Sale price of $300M means he owns 1.5%. Forbes valued the team at $269M this season, down 9% from the previous season. Operating deficit of 13.9M. In 2004, Team owner Bruce Ratner said he wanted to have team in Brooklyn for the 2006-07 season but 2012 looks more promising.

**Gain Global Investments Networks:
-Company owns a 7 percent stake in the group that was chosen and then lost a deal to develop a Racino at Aqueduct Racetrack. Jay-Z owns a 28.6 percent stake in AEG.

NYC Real estate:
**345 West 14th St.: part of a group that borrowed $30M to buy Meatpacking District building for development. Plans went south during recession. Sold loan for $19.5M.

**510 West 22nd St.:
In August 2007, a company he controlled borrowed $52M to purchase the land in order to develop a luxury J Hotel. Walked away from the project and loan during the recession. Sued lender, Highland Capital, for “bleeding” him of interest payments.HE IS STILL [PAYING INTEREST ON THIS LOAN TO THIS DAY AT THE RATE OF 20,000 A DAY

**Carols Daughter
Jay z bought a piece of Carols Daughter African American Natural Hair product company. Promising a great partnership and the beginning of much more success. The company went filled bankrupt shortly after and closed most of its retail stores. An investment Capitol firm bought the business for pennies on the dollar, Jay lost his investment.

**Barneys Department store deal
Jay Z has caught flak for continuing to sell a line of clothing at Barney's amidst the department store's recent racial profiling scandal. It was Barneys that discontinued the deal, shutting down the partnership.

**LIVE NATION
JAY Z RECENTLY WAS FORCED TO RE-SIGN TO LIVE NATION.

THE ORIGINAL DEAL WHICH WAS A 360 DEAL, COMPRISED OF A CASH ADVANCE (MUST BE PAID BACK WITH INTEREST) FOR PROMOTION , DEVELOPMENT, TOURING AND RECORDING FUNDING FOR HIS ROC NATION ARTIST, LEGAL REPRESENTATION AND LIVING AND TRAVEL EXPENSES ALL TOGETHER TOTALED 14O MILLION. IN THE END JAY Z NOT ONLY STILL OWES LIVE NATION HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS LIVE NATION PULLED THE PLUG ON FUNDING ANYMORE ROC NATION ARTIST, SAYING THEY ARE NO LONGER IN THE ARTIST DEVELOPMENT AND RECORDING SIDE OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS.

*And then there are all the law suits totally multi millions* said...

In addition Jay Z has a boatload of law suits against him right now. If you remember the law suit regarding paternity from his son Rymir Satterthwait and his mother Wanda

THEY SPECIFICALLY SAID HE MOVED AROUND AND LIVED HIS LIFE IN A MANNER THAT WAS INTENTIONALLY STRUCTURED TO MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO SERVED HIM FOR A SUMMONS. HE WAS HIDING BEHIND A COMPLEX NETWORK OF ATTORNEYS AND CORPORATIONS AND TEMPORARY ADDRESSES

There are definitely more people trying to sue him right now on top of what he is currently being sued for.

@1:10 Bey stays with J because she feeĺs that his stage name makes her brand look good. She likes the idea of getting wide hood fans added to her pop fanbase. It aint for love its for power and fame.

Jay wont ever try to kill Bey (even tho he tries to poison her food alledgedly) the way he (alledgedly) offed Aaliyah because EVERYONE will put the brudnt on him and connect dots on the women that 'disappeared' around him.

1:36 just broke it all the way down. My favorite all time RWS comments about Jay-Z and his alleged business sense:

"Let's not forget when he allegedly told on Irv Gotti, Dame Dash, and Chris Lighty when they tried to start a fully Black-owned record and distribution company...A friend from undergrad interned at a small black-owned law practice in North Jersey that was handling some of the tax prep for the deal...Then all of a sudden the deal dissipated.

Word trickled down that the support they were lining up "vanished" almost overnight and notice how almost everyone involved with the deal (Dame, Irv, Suge, and the late Chris Lighty) ended up losing almost everything including their lives and financial freedom?

Notice how Jay-Z is still happy with his "nigga pennies" as long as he gets to visit the White House (when the President isn't present) go to tennis matches (siting in someone else's box) and party in the Hamptons and Bel Air (in rented houses.)

He will forever work for others when he could have been truly working for himself. He was on the cusp of real power, money, and influence with that deal but I believe deep down he knows he's not smart or doesn't believe in Black people and is scared to REALLY be in charge."

Ms Tina has put the frosting on the cake - in an interview for Wearable Art she states: Beyonce is back @ the hotel but she is coming (Gala was in LA where Beyonce supposedly lives) and states on her Instagram account how Kris Jenner is her dear friend.

Anonymous said...

Thanks 4:25PM. Ms. Tina & Solange always spill the beans on what's really going on with Beyonce. On last week's episode of Extra, Ms. Tina told Mario Lopez that she and Richard have been blessed with a new home. Her comment was after Mario made a comment about Bey & Jay looking for a home in LA. Maybe Tina is making those comments on purpose to try to shame/shade Bey into waking up from Jay's hold. Solange has already beat Jay up. However, Ms. Tina seems like she's trying to be a celebrity herself and capitalizing on Richard Lawson's career. She lived her life thru Bey at the expense of negelecting Solange and Lord only knows what shady stuff she helped her ex do to get Bey to the top. Maybe she's distancing herself from the monster she created.
