Halle Berry Says Her Oscar Meant Nothing

Back in 2002 Halle Berry became the first woman of color to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Monster's Ball.

Now, 15 years later, Halle admits her win did nothing to help diversify Hollywood...

Halle Berry tells Teen Vogue,
“Wow, that moment really meant nothing. It meant nothing. I thought it meant something but I think it meant nothing.”
No other woman of color has won the Oscar for Best Lead Actress since.

They gave her an oscar for playing a sterotypical, single black mother with a boyfriend on death row, who neglects her fat dark skinned son to the point of death and starts having sex with one of the white men who helped execute her husband played by the most succesful black man (at the time) and showing them tiddays begging for sex to "make her feel good" while showing flashes of hands grabbing a bird in a cage.

No Halle...That did mean something. You missed it.

Oscars are a joke.

WELP... You are still black, so yeah, it meant nothing... sad ! Maybe Viola will get it in another 15 years..

Did she really think she won for her acting?
Everybody knows why she WON
I know many Black Females who are much better actors and never got an OSCAR NOMINATION

Halle, take a sit and take some acting lessons
Oh and stop having babies

I still can't bring myself to watch that movie, and probably won't ever see it.

@11:42

It's so shitty and depressing. Don't bother.

I can't get over the fact that Angela Bassett wasn't the leading black actress in the 90s and 2000s. Halle is so flat on-screen, so boring and unbelievable, whereas Angela could give you goosebumps, no matter what role she played.
Hollywood was never for Black people.

We should have been told you that, Halle.

She got an Oscar for Best Actress in a SOFTCORE PORNO.

@11:40am...Viola won for best supporting actress earlier this year for fences. At least we know hers was well earned!

Halle got her half-nigga wake up call!

Exactly too both 11:29! Denzel knew what it meant also that night. His facial expression says it all. Although Halle's not the best actress she has had better roles, because honestly, I only remember the overdone sex scene. Denzel getting the Oscar for Training Day? Not saying it wasn't good, but a crooked cop? You can see the dissatisfaction on his face during his speech. I'm sure he was probably thinking "Wow! an Oscar for a intense sex scene and a crooked cop"? I'm completely honored! And Halle STFU you too new for this Hollywood Sh*t!

the sex scene was pretty good. you could feel the emotion.

the fact she was doing the scene with Billy Bob thornton's ugly ass?!?!?!?!?!?!

In General Why do Black People always have to beg for Acceptance?

Louis Gossett Jr. won the Academy Award in 1982 for “An Officer and a Gentleman” and what did it do for his career? SHIT! Cuba Gooding Jr. won an Academy Award in 1996 for “Jerry Maguire” and what did it do for his career? SHIT! Hattie McDaniel won the Academy Award in 1939 for playing a fucking mammy in “Gone With The Win” and what did it do for her career? Well, she did go on to play a maid named Beulah in a television show by the same name… SHIT! Comedian Monique won the Academy Award in 2009 for “Precious” and what did it do for her career? Black listed! SHIT! The only black actors who continued to have success in their careers after winning Hollywood’s most prestiges award was Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, and Jamie Foxx, but I would say that Foxx is a hit or miss… Mainly misses!

I'm still looking for Regina Kings's Oscar for her role in the movie "Ray". Look all Halle had to do to get that Oscar but a white woman can win for something dumb as LaLa Land. It took Halle to have to go nude and beg for sex from an old white man named Billy Bob. Such a shame.

@11:29am .... Thank you, thank you, thank you. Yeah, she totally missed what that prize meant.

So glad I never saw that film.

When a Black person wins an Oscar it just means a Black person won an Oscar. That's it.

i don't like halle..lol but i can see at the time thinking the win would have some type of influence even if it was a side eye role to win to. i remember her giving a shout out to other black women actress and being geniuely excitied. she probably thought this is our time! i think black celebs underestimate anti blackness in that industry hell around the world. that is why blacks still beg from crumbs despite numerous black celebs who are millionaires hell oprah a damn billionaire and they still won't let her into certain stores. that's why i don't understand why they don't get together and build something. i mean you have everyday black folks pooling funds to create their own stories/production companies (ie issa rae and awkward black girl) these black celebs still waiting around for Oscars that mean nothing.

MAKE ME FEEL GOOD!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That movie was so fuckin stupid I would of rather seen her get an Oscar for BAPS lets face it the only reason people stomach her acting is because she is easy on the eye. Halle is the Rihanna of acting caaan't do it.

Whoopi Goldberg... Not sure if I liked her role in Ghost.
She also won for The Color Purple.

I troll it like I see it. said...

@11:29 AM. You said what I was coming to say. Halle behind closed doors is a self hating coon, so fuck her and her carefully crafted image.

OK everybody...this is Halle. You know when she needs attention, she does something. This is this moment. Isn't her baby daddy dating charlize? Ok, do you get it now? attention....

The Color Purple won ZERO Oscars.....dummy.

@11:46 Yes give me Angela Basset any day. I could watch her films over and over. Also Kimberly Elise and Octavia Spencer. Those women can act and have made some great films.

Lee said...

They gave it to her because she took her clothes off and slept with a racist. It was kind of a degrading role.

@ 1:12 PM, Because they are unaware of their worth.

Really halle ? You thought you taking back shots was opening doors for black women? What you really mean is you thought your ass was going to blow up . I guess Catwoman and a bit part in the X Man wasn't groundbreaking for you. You played yourself. But you can still make a living so you can take care of your white sperm donor. Bye Felicia!

Halle has the type of acting that is cringe worthy. Her talent is subpar at best.

The only reason she won that oscar is because she showed her p*^sy and was pretty much that white guy's sex slave in the movie. I called it when she was nominated.

When blacks win an oscar it's a double edge sword. The oscar denotes a higher salary that studios aren't willing to front to a black actor/ess who they believe won't draw the numbers they require to make profit. Hence the stagnant career post Oscar.
