Ice Cube Sits Down with Bill Maher to Discuss the N-Word

Last week Bill Maher raised eyebrows after calling himself a house n***er during a segment of Real Time with Bill Maher [click here if you missed that].

Last night Ice Cube, Symone D. Sanders and Bill Maher hashed it out...

I can appreciate the remarks from Ice Cube and Symone but their messages are falling on deaf ears because Bill clearly doesn't get it.
They should have asked that asshole why he was so quick to equate working the Nebraska corn fields in 2017 with slavery.
My guess is as long as prominent Black folks keep supporting Bill, he's going to keep peddling his low key racist ideologies to the masses.

I appreciate both Ice Cube and Symone Sander's for speaking so eloquently about why his usage of the word was so offensive. I hope in the future he'll tread lightly and also educate himself further regarding this topic.

Yawn. I don't expect much from celebrities or other famous people coming off as "conscious" or "woke", or whatever. I know a few Hoteps and Ankhs that would have laid Bill's ass out, but they will never be invited to join such panels. The people he has invited to his shows barely scratch the surface. They are too soft and afraid to cross the proverbial line, so I don't take any of them seriously. Give me someone that isn't concerned about their public reputation or next project after the show and that's when I know I've experienced some real talk and not just some media fluff to smooth over what Bill said so things can get back to whatever they want to call normal.

Bill "gets it", he just doesn't give a damn because he apparently has been doing what he wants and wanted to do with Black folks, especially Black women, for years. Time for him to be "checked" is long gone.

P.S. Nebraska. The birthplace of Malcolm X.

I could care less about this White man saying the N word. I'm more angry about the 1 trillion that will be cut in Social Services, Blacks murdering each other, Real racists in White House

Whatever to this discussion. Bill doesn't care and it's evident. Like the above poster stated, I'll take it seriously when someone who doesn't care about their reputation being tarnished says what really needs to be said. However, that will never happen.

Would they be ok with it if Bill said nigga instead of nigger?
You know, because they claim its a term of endearment and all that bullshit.

Ice Cube? whatever. If Bill wanted a serious discussion he would've asked the women who started Black Lives Matter or some other Black women intellectuals. I say Black women because we are the forefront right now in social justice work. But That will never happen Bill only likes Black women he can dominate and Black men celebrities like Ice Cube who is no real threat. How ridiculous Cube runs around saying nigga in all his songs, but he supposed to school Bill on the usage of the word. setup.

Bill look like he's falling asleep instead of thinking about it. I guess he couldn't sleep the night before thinking this will happen since he sexualize bw for his pleasure and call them names like massa. Guilty much?

I cannot bear this fat fraud. You can see Ice Cube treading so carefully with his words. He's nothing more than a corporate bitch. Not the right person to be giving this kind of talk since he was more than happy for gawky white kids to use while reciting his NWA lyrics.
You can't suddenly change the goalposts now and say they can't use it too when you've been pitching this very language to them your entire career.

Our Word? That word has no place in my vocabulary. Every time I hear it it makes me cringe. I can only imagine how hard it was for ancestors to bear the humiliation and beatings as they were being called the N word. I have never greeted a fellow black person with that word. Thanks to Ice Cube and his Homies the N word has become a household name and is treated as a word of endearment.
