Jay Z's Platinum Status Short Cut

Earlier this week it was reported that Jay Z's new album 4:44 had gone platinum within days of release [click here if you missed that].

Now we know how...

From Hits Daily Double
It appears the key was the Sprint campaign, which enabled new subscribers (and, we’re told, anyone else with an email address and promo code) to get a free download.
Per RIAA rules, a sale counts toward certification even if purchased by a business and offered to fans who must take steps to acquire it. Thus if Sprint purchased a million copies of 4:44—in a deal quite similar to the Samsung agreement that catapulted Jay’s Magna Carta Holy Grail to stratospheric numbers in 2013—that’s instant platinum, bubbeleh.
All of which explains why the RIAA’s Cary Sherman was all ready with that handsome plaque to do a photo op with Jay on 4th of July weekend.

Sounds like a bunch of entertainment business mumbojumbo to me. If it's platinum it's platinum. Good for him. Much easier to listen to than Lil Uzi Vert which I gave a try a few months ago. My only chance at continuing to listen to rap is if Jay and others continue to release music🤷🏿‍♂️ 40 can't be too old any more. I'll take an over 40, E-40 over anything that's out now by his younger peers...

Hey 2:11 Some advice for you! said...

@2:11 Hows Jays nuts taste.

Get your own life, go do something that YOU can Brag about CONCERNING YOURSELF.

YOU GET NO PROPS FOR BEING JAYS NUT HOLDER

Embarrasing, @Get your own life, stop riding someones elses

@HHIC its confusing on purpose.

Billboard already said in plain lanvuage that SPRINT PURCHASED ONE MILLION COPIES AND DISQUALIFIED JAYS WHOLE ALBUM FROM BEING LISTED ON BILLBOARD.

JAY CANT COMPETE ANYMORE SO HE CHEATS, Shrugs

Guess it satisfies his ego, years ago Billboard would never put him blast and the fans and public would never know.

They are tired of his bull.Shits gottton old.

He did same with his last album, Magna Carter Holy FAIL.

@HHIC

The fact is Jay is not relevant anymore. That's why he has to get other entities to purchase the album. The kids don't care about him they want their mumble rap. It is what it is.

You know from a business standpoint, this was genius. To have accompany purchase a million copies of your album. However, from an artist's perspective - or in Jay's case - to brag about going platinum (which is really all this boils down to, makes him look ridiculous and pathetic. Going platinum is an achievement because it means people (at least a million) thought enough about your music or your artistry enough to invest $9.99+ of their money into buying your product. If we remove that aspect of it, then really what notoriety does a platinum plaque hold? A million people didn't buy it and you're essentially banking on a marketing and PE team to convince the public (by hype and inflated numbers) to buy it. It's a con. A hustle. Cause you're trying to convince folks to buy your money off of hype instead of their artistry. This is why I don't respect Jay. He can't play the game so he finds loopholes to get over or appear greater than he is. And for what? Bragging rights?

Ugh. So many errors lol

@12:34 Because the industry just doesnt care anymore. And neither do the fans from the above comments. They know that now, they will be complacent about him getting "exposed" because they will still go to 40 or 50 city tours. Nobody is gonna say nothing to the reports. This is just more publicity and more opportunity for him to make money.

12:46 Bragging rights is what it boils down to. And its stupid because your getting yourself in debt to Tidal and Sprint. Like, literally $10 million+ in debt living in the illusion, or should i say, delusion that a million people actually spent $9.99 on your album. Regardless if it was actually a good album. Also, see if his fanbase really like Sprint. That company is a snake. Anyway, expect more egotistical stories from his PR relating to his said platinum cert.

This will be one heck of a joyride.
Hope the profits exceeds the major costs

I want to know who buys albums anymore? It's a wonder people sell 100,000 albums in this day and age. This ain't 1997 or even 2010. With so many streaming services, (e.g. Apple Music, Prime Music)why would I pay to have an ONE album when I pay $9.99 a month and can have all the music I want in my pocket??

Anonymous said...

There was a link to download the free copies, lol I know exactly why. Sprint phone holders weren't streaming through tidal. Hahaaa. They had to give away the free purchased "copies" hahaaa pathetic! Broke bytch! I'm currently reading prodigy from mobb deep audio book free on YouTube and it's clear u don't make a lot of money in the music business.

You on to something Smith, clearly your eyes can see real lies....

Humans have been blinded/drugged/manipulated/torture, etc... SO THEY WON'T EVER SEE THE TRUTH...Demons are real, you can sell your soul, and there is a higher power of BOTH GOOD AND EVIL.

Shawn Carter left the building as soon as her signed with a major record label way back when,
This entity now is stuck on stupid while Shawn Carter is taking a back sit in his own body.

The Demon we know as Jayz is stuck on NUMBERS..stuck on wanting "Everyone to believe he has ALL THE MONEY, ALL THE PULL, ALL THE RESPECT" so it much much deeper than bragging rights it's insanity. What is insanity "Doing the same thing over and over and over and over"

Here's a video..there's so many videos & books on this subject..below is a quick run through of Jay's position now and the TRUTH about our environment

@3:19 PM...Thanks for confirming what I was thinking all along. I knew he wasn't too far removed from the Jigga we've known for years now. But in his defense...How can he catch any fish (BS album + dumb ppl = mo money $, mo money $, mo monaayyy $$$) if he don't throw in the fishing line? And from what it's been looking like...these fools are gonna make sure he is well paid. Talking abt. he conscious now. HA!

prince and Madonna were doing similar shit back in the day.
if you bought a concert ticket, you would get a complimentary cd of their new songs.

the thing was they would used the tickets sales as cd sales and stack the billboard saying they had the number one record that week.

until they got exposed.

Well, Jay Z is far from contrite. No one is really buying his "honesty", as of late. Over a decade of cheating on his wife, hustling her, "sharing" their money, ugh the list goes on.

Sanity is: doing the same thing over and over again and getting the same result. He is in desperate need of counseling, rehab and whatever else would service his health.

^^^^ Insanity is

It's a smart move by Jay but still cheap as hell. It also signals a horrible message to young up and comers. Tapping for corporate Amurikkka Trumps hard work and true artistic expression.
