Tidal's Chart Manipulation Explained

Earlier this week Tyler the Creator lashed out at Tidal accusing the music streaming service of manipulating the Billboard chart to keep his album 'Flower Boy' out of the no.1 spot [click here if you missed that].

Now more details have surfaced...

From Hits Daily Double
Sources inside Billboard confirm that the publication is planning to count in-front-of-the-paywall Tidal streams of Meek Mill's Wins & Losses in the album’s chart total—and the potential chart ramifications are already seismic. Bible staffers are apoplectic over the lack of leadership at the top of the publication and the refusal to address the most naked example of chart manipulation in recent memory.
These free streams generate no revenue and thus equate to free goods, thus making them ineligible for chart inclusion. Also, the presence of the album in front of the paywall opens the way for unlimited use of bots to drive up streaming totals, unencumbered by accounts or logins.

Billboard is a fucking joke. And it's hilarious that after 3 short weeks and all those sprint stunts, 4:44 is already down to #8 at HDD and kendrick at #4 charting higher than jay.

Jay Z you are not Beyonce! You cannot drop an album without a set release date like she did and expect a smash. She is the megastar in the family not you.

Industry bullshit all to make up for the fact that NO ONE is checking for these industry losers anymore. If I like a song or album, i'll buy it. I won't be manipulated into buying shit because the industry supports them.

OT: Jay's new album is WEAK and i've never been a fan of this Tyler loser.

@9:25

Lemonade was only a "smash" in the US. It barely pushed 2 million copies.

Lemonade is only as big as its marketing. The visuals, the scandal concerning her marriage, and the HBO hype made Lemonade. Not to say the songs aren't decent, but Beyonce's team knows how to capitalize on what's current to make her music a success.

Jay album is weak. Im still rocking to Kendrick Lemar.

i don't care for tyler "anti black woman" creator's arse so don't care if his album flopping, but it is shady what's going down lately with album sells. as noted, it's all because people don't buy albums anymore unless they are hardcore fans of someone. jay z style is so outdated. i was going to say why does he bother with making albums, but forgot live nation probably has him by the nuts.

@10:16, it wasn't Rocket Science but yeah, the assumption that people have the deductive reasoning at this stage is a big leap. Yeah, I totally agree with you.

Tyler's album is good, actually.

Tyler the satanist is a misogynist who hates black women. He gets what he gets. Tyler needs to tell his problems to Satan.
