Venus Williams Granted Order of Protection Against Car Crash Victim

Last month professional tennis player Venus Williams was found at fault in a tragic car crash that resulted in the death of 78-year-old passenger Jerome Barson two weeks after the accident [click here if you missed that].

Now Venus has been granted a protective order against his family...

From The Daily Mail
Venus Williams has won an emergency court order against the family suing her over the death of a 78-year-old man in a car crash, it emerged Thursday.
The family of Jerome Barson have brought a wrongful death case against the tennis star, claiming she is liable for damages after the car crash which led to his death.
Now Williams has won the first legal round in the court case over the death, gaining an emergency protective order against the Barsons.
She applied for it on Wednesday, July 5, and it was granted the same day.
The court records do not specify the reason for the urgency behind Williams' motion or what the order says.
The family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit [click here if you missed that].

They must be harassig the shit out of her. And did the insurance not pay well enough? Of course not if the other party is rich. SMH Florida doesnt even let you know if the other party is insured or not. Its sad.

The protective order is to stop them from getting evidence that can be manipulated, right? Video footage and what not. From what I read even the cops are denying them access to that stuff. That leads me to believe this case isn't as cut and dry as the dead man's family would like us to believe🤔 Eh. I'm not a Venus fan. What will be shall indeed be. We'll see what happens...

Amazing how folks are on the side of the rich. I like her, but that was someone's loved one.

@BlogBasic, Not quite sure what you mean. I'm from Florida and you are notified if a driver is insured or not after an accident....especially if the situation escalates to a lawsuit.

^^ this will go to trial/lawsuit so the rules change. The jury is allowed to think at fault parties dont have insurance.

*prior to the rendition of a verdict, Florida law prohibits your lawyer from mentioning to the jury that:
the defendant has insurance coverage
what type of insurance it is
the amount of coverage available

You guys are wrong Venus will win. She never got a ticket for this accident. She was going 5 mph. Pretty sure she had full coverage insurance. This is the greedy ass couple wanting to sue knowing that she's a millionaire and will probably settle. Florida loves to sue under every circumstance. They just want a settlement not Justice. The man was 78.

I bet they wouldn't be suing if this was Ms. Myrtle the librarian or Mr. Adams the mid-level manager. The insurance Venus had should be ample enough to cover that man's life. I hate it for the deceased, but his life is no more valuable because Venus was in the car that they struck than if it was Mrs. Viola Crump, Deaconess and President of the Usher board from Florida Mission AME Zion church.

It is not like she was drunk or high, with gross negligence. It was an accident that many people would have survived. She has insurance ... that should be enough. For heaven's sake, the man was 76 years old. It is not like he had a gang of small children left at home.

I am glad the courts are protecting her and may God continue to do so as well.

How is Venus at fault when SHE was hit???? '

It's not Venus' fault that old white woman driver CAUSED her husband's injuries. Had Mrs. Barson been a DEFENSIVE driver and waited patiently for the intersection to clear BEFORE she accelerated, she would NOT have hit Venus' SUV regardless of who had the right of way.

The PROBLEM was Mrs. Barson...not Venus!

She gets hit and it's her fault

5:11 I see what you're saying but people sue for any and everything these days. Greedy, lazy, no scruples coupled with unsavory lawyers.
