The Reason The Carmichael Show was Canceled

Last month fan favorite The Carmichael Show was canceled after only three seasons on NBC [click here if you missed that].

Network execs explain why the sitcom had to go...

At a recent press conference NBC boss Jennifer Salke explained,
"We loved the show and the cast and Jerrod from the start. It’s been a labor of love. Everyone was hoping the show would perform and grow. We saw a great stable audience slowly building with critical attention, but it remained in a challenging situation. We looked at the show with Jerrod, (and asked) what’s the long term plan? Is there a chance for real big success? Maybe it’s best to let the show end.”

What type of "explanation" is that...it doesn't give any insight as to why the show was cancelled. This all happened after the postponed the "mall shooting" episode.

In other words we got tired of their black asses. Isn't Blackish enough for you people?

Let me translate her for y'all that don't understand.

The show did not have enough viewers to keep paying for. No sponsor wants to pay prime time advertising rates for a show that has too few consumers watching. As for the mall episode, they were saving it for when viewership was up to bolster the "water-cooler effect".

To be honest, the show wasnt funny. I watch/ watched it to support it and help with the rating but it really boring-which is string b/c David Alan Grier is hilarious to me. He just sucked in this show.

The show really wasn't that funny. Never heard of Jerrod Carmichael until this show. The acting was subpar, with exception to Loretta Devine, David Alan Grier, and Jerrod's girlfriend. NBC was just trying to create their "Blackish" and it didn't work.

It was dry as hell and y'all know it. However, I kept watching, hoping it would get better. Jerrod's "acting" is like wood, Loretta is too damn loud/simpleton/same character she always plays, Lil Rel needs to stop looking at the teleprompter, Tiffany's character has no business around them if she's the ex-wife, Jerrod's gf is waaaaaaayyyyy above him and lastly David's acting (which I thought would be the best, considering how long he's been in the game like Loretta) is terrible. The best show was when Marla Gibbs was on. She out-acted everyone else, even at her age. Her comedic timing was perfect.

I watched it each week because the topics were true to life and the commentary from the cast was usually spot on. I had never heard of Jerrod, Lil Rel, or the girl who plays Jerrod's girlfriend. I knew of Tiffany from watching "At Midnight" of all things. Actually I'm a little disappointed that they got cancelled, because again, I liked the social commentary that they presented. I've only watched one episode of Blackish and I didn't really latch on, so I can't speak on whether or not this show was supposed to be an answer for that show. I'll miss it because it was TV that I liked.

LMAO 10:47! ITA 11:12

If you ever get a chance to check out Lil Rels stand up, please do. The brotha will have you on the floor and I am not exaggerating. Its the kind of funny you rarely see period. Bernie Mac, Robin Harris level Blackness.

Let's keep it real, no one watched the damn show. It was boring. The timing was off and the jokes didn't deliver. I tried to watch, I did but it was just horrible.

Hahahahahahaha!!! No you didn't just quote "Real World" Tami circa 1993.

Jerrod saying "Maxine" a million time every time they had a scene together drove me crazy.

I tried watching this show for David Alan Grier but it just wasn't funny to me. That Jerrod guy came across stiff as did his girlfriend.

Bingo. Same exact sentiments. They tried to touch on one too many real life incidents with dull as humor. I was turned off and I love David Alan Grier and Loretta Devine but not for this crap.

The show wasnt to make you laugh. It was to keep you aware of what is going on in your face.
This is why it was cancelled.
This was the only reason I watched channel 4 in DECADES.
I am sure this white woman used "ratings" as a cop out but they did not promote this show on any level.
I dont watch CBS at all, but yet I stay seeing promo for some whack ass sitcom sell out leave your wife and family for a white woman Marlon and the only actress that will work with him Essence big forehead Atkins.
This show is being promoted on other networks because Marlon will change who is is to appease his boss. Jerrod won't, he has other talent to fall back on.
Unlike Marlon trying to out do Kennan's success via Hollywood Shuffle, Raw, I'm gonna get you sucka, In living color success with quarter water, sunflower seed and now & later SNAPS with NO JOKES.
Jerod gonna be alright NBC not so much.
