Nicki Minaj Bashes Designers Over Cultural Appropriation

This week during designer Philipp Plein's New York Fashion Week afterparty rapper Nicki Minaj bashed high end designers for getting rich off African American culture while excluding African Americans from their shows...

During her set Nicki told the crowd,
“Thank you Philipp Plein for including our culture. Designers get really big and really rich off of our culture, and then you don’t see a motherfucker that look anything like us in the front row half the time. So let’s make some noise for Philipp Plein tonight.”
Ironically, this year fashion critic Bevy Smith read Plein to pieces for being one of the biggest cultural appropriators around.

Who is Nicki Minaj. No-one really.

Seriously? She built her career on naming designers in her 'music'. Have several seats, Nicki--you're time's almost up.

I know a few aspiring black designers did not know this was Phillip Plein! I thought it was an up and coming black designer, but realizing that we can barely get our foot in the door. He had all the black Instagram 'models' there’ had all the hottest rappers and black socialites. We are treated as accessories.

ANY fashion influencer should of had a bad taste in their mouth after seeing this show. When Nicki released her line everyone said how tacky it was, but this white man does it and it is now 'en vogue'.

These white culture, especially in the fashion industry have repeatedly stolen from black culture. What pisses me off, rappers are slaves to these brands in every song they shout out all these designers, Gucci this, LV, Versace, Rolex smh. I love that Bey and Rih have used unknown black designers in the past and Gaga and Zayn have used young black designers as well.

She must not have learned her lesson after calling out Giuseppe Zanotti. Her fame has been fading every since, and with comments like this she'll be on an episode of Unsung in no time.

The fashion industry and the rest of corporate America are getting rich off exploiting hip hop culture. At some point folks have decided hip hop culture and AA culture are one in the same but they aren't.

None of the shit I have seen walking down the runway represents African American culture so I don't know what the hell Nicki is talking about.
Now if some of you decide to go out and spend your little money on overpriced pieces of fabric just because you saw your fav model it on Instagram, whose fault is that.

Until the label whore mentality is removed from the black community, these designers will continue to exploit us - why wouldn't they if we're buying their shit?! People living check to check, rent barely paid, no gas in their car if they even have one and bad credit but have a wardrobe to die for. We are our own worst enemy and Nikki needs to shut up cause we all know she aint shopping black!

also it's weird to call out appropriation when you are walking around with bleached skin and blonde weaves and call other Black women nappy headed hoes. when engage in that behavior you don't respect blackness either.

I can't stand Phillip Plein's garbage. There's is absolutely nothing original about is collections and his footwear is hideous. No wonder NM gives him props.

@12:53 That's true

Nicki's comment was true also....
It's just that MOST if not all rappers are hypocrites.

Talk one way & live another
It's not right but very common

@12:30 pm she'll never be an unsung because she is the biggest female rapper of all time and one of the top rappers male or female. And the hits keep coming in. She's in her own stratosphere. On tour with Bey? It don't get any bigger for a girl from Queens.

I have to say it - that YT girl looks ridiculous in those shorts.

As for Niki - why I feel like she's jumping on the bandwagon???

I hate the eay Bevy speaks. She would definitely be better than Bullwinkle on fashion police though.

^^^ I'm sure Mrs. Leakes is laughing at ALL of her HATERS all the way to the the Bank.

But, yeah Bevy needs to do better.

@ Prissa, you are wrong for that LoL

@ Don Balee, I actually agree
Nicki's Haters seem to forget that she is not a Local rapper but an INTERNATIONAL Pop Star so Yes, like all stars, eventually her shine will fall BUT not as fast as they would like to believe.

Nicki survived Remy's jealous attack and pressed on while Remy is already back into obscurity with ZERO marketability.

She is more articulate & marketable than Cardi B and has way more hits in her collection.

Card has room to grow and prove herself to not be a 1 hit wonder.

But until then...Nicki is still a star folks

Rich people arguing with rich people...white/black makes no difference. They don't give a fuck about middle to low class blacks until they need our money, support, and/ideas. We get exploited by them all...rich white AND black people. Fuck them all, I'd rather spend my time and emotion on the everyday people that REALLY got issues...
