Jelani Maraj Seeking a Mistrial

Earlier this week Jelani Maraj's lawyers claimed his sister, Nicki Minaj, would testify in court that Jelani's ex-wife sought a $25 million payoff to drop the child rape charges against him [click here if you missed that].

Turns out Nicki won't be testifying after all and Jelani is seeking a mistrial...

From Newsday,
Supreme Court Justice Robert McDonald denied a motion from the lawyer of Jelani Maraj for a mistrial, after a protest that the defense wasn’t allowed to confront a 10-year-old witness Monday with questions about a “settlement agreement.”
In denying the mistrial, McDonald said in court Tuesday he had learned that “there may have been attempts to reach a civil settlement to avoid a trial” – attempts “many months after the arrest.” But he said he “made a determination” on what he “thought was right” in making his ruling.
Maraj’s attorney, David Schwartz, told the judge Tuesday — outside the jury’s presence — that his client’s Sixth Amendment right to confront a witness was violated Monday. The Garden City attorney said he hadn’t been allowed to query the 10-year-old boy – the brother of the alleged victim – about case worker’s notes he said showed the child “was talking about litigation” and “talking about a settlement agreement.”
He said after court that the issue “goes towards my whole theory of the case – which is a shakedown.”

OMG his lawyer is really reaching with his bull shit. Jelly Garbage needs to just plead guilty and be done with it. Nothing his lawyer says makes a difference- he's making it worse actually.

If this case is a mistrial than Nicki and her mama got some serious juju from a high priestess or Palero involved.

you can't avoid criminal prosecution for an illegal act by settling in civil court. even if the complaining witness doesn't want to pursue criminal charges, the state still has the right to without the victim's consent. so yes, reaching with really short arms.

Further trying to victimize children. Why do they need a CHILD'S testament to prove that the family asked for money?
They wanted to confront a little boy in court. wtf could he even know?
This pervert and his lawyers are completely despicable and atrocious, I hope they burn in hell.

Dude's dna was found in the little girl's clothes. He would've been SHOT if that were my kid. Money can't buy a child's innocence. I hope they fry him.

This is so sad and the brothers testimony had me in my feelings. Im going to wait until the defense has it’s time up to bat but this isn’t looking good for Jenasty. At this point, win or lose, we will never look at them the same. The damage is done IMO either way.

This shows that Nicki ain't worth a damn. She's not only supporting this pedophile financially, but even choosing to support him knowing that there is extremely strong evidence supporting the fact that he's guilty. Wrong is wrong no matter who does it.

Never could stand this clown outfit wearing, nursery rhyme rapper.

Bye bastard. Give him the full punishment. And before or after, make sure he meets that real street justice.

@ 1:50 pretty much. I got a feeling he will get off. I seen cases like this many times and the muthafuckas get off and have to stay away from the victim

Even if she did seek money it doesn't make him less guilty. The court could find him guilty and she could still come back and sue him and get money.
