Tom Joyner Announces His Retirement

Earlier this year Tom Joyner fans were stunned after his morning radio show was replaced on WVAZ in Chicago by The Steve Harvey Show and shuffled to over to SOUL 106.3 [click here if you missed that].

Now Tom is leaving radio for good...

In audio posted on Black America Web Tom Joyner announces,
“I’m putting in my two-year notice.”
“At the end of the contract that I just signed, at the end of 2019, will be the end of the ‘Tom Joyner Morning Show.’ I’m retiring, and for the next two years, we’re going to reminisce, go down Memory Lane and talk about all the things that we’ve done for the past 25 years.”

^^^Yes we are--so much so, and so fast it's frightening. And what's even more, we don't seem to care. This brother has done so much to uplift our community; has sent so many young brothers and sisters to school, kept us abreast of the issues that matter to us when no one else would in his position. And to go from him to Harvey?!

No words.

Thank you Mr. Joyner.

@ 10:28 I agree with you 100%. I now have to stream TJMS in the morning when I'm getting ready for work. This is the real morning show with very pertinent information to the black community. And you know TJ and his staff truly give a damn! Let me reiterate.........Thank you Tom Joyner and the TJMS for so many years of GREAT radio.

Rickey Smiley be doing all that cooning and buffooning too on his morning shows. The future generations will have to look to credible podcasts and YouTube channels for real news. The morning shows are disastrous and some are not safe to even listen to at work bc of all the foul language and behavior.

Wow! Didn't know because he wasn't on in our area, but S. Harvey and old Rickey trash is (r. smiley came back partially from full-show)! SC
Sounds like a credible man and credible show! Wow! (Sidenote: probably should have mixed a little more hip hop to attract more listeners and ratings) Well thanks for their service!

The first time I heard TJ was in the late 90s when I was going for a walk on St. Patrick's day. Tom and J Anthony were cappin' on Gerald Levert (saying he was waiting to exhale) and talking about making green grits (with broccoli) for St. Paddy's day. Very funny man. Good luck in retirement. I bet he'll be hittin' up all the buffets. :)

I will miss TJMS. I have to admit I don't tune in everyday but I usually tune in at least twice during the week. I attended every Sky Show when it came to town with my mom. Great times. It's a shame that Steve gets so much love from our community and really doesn't do anything to elevate it. Tom has been outstanding on the news front and helping young brothers and sisters get an education. Good luck

I've always liked Russ Parr, but I respect Tom Joyner. He will be missed!
