H&M Offers Generic Apology for Monkey Hoodie Fiasco

Yesterday fashion retailer H&M was called out for featuring a Black child in an advert for a hoodie with the phrase 'Coolest Monkey in the Jungle' across the front [click here if you missed that].

H&M offers an apology...

While no official apology has been issued H&M cut and pasted the same apology to a few people online who complained about the racially insensitive ad.

from the 'looks' of this kid, I guarantee that his parents are Africans...

Alot of those dumd ass africans think white people are their friends. They have NO CLUE of the systematic racism towards blacks in this country, they just go with the flow of whatever white america says to do. SMH

You damn africans better wake up.

No shade but how many times have I heard black mothers playfully calling their toddlers monkeys? I personally never called any little people in my family monkeys but I have heard others say it; I don't find offense to it and I'm Black...

@11:04 I agree with you. They don't think being called a monkey applies to them, they feel it's only racist towards Black Americans. The little boy is cute a button and this is said to see. I'm not sure why black people are defending this shit by saying; they are not offended because it's European.

Where the fuck is Americas Oprah and her homicidal speech this time? And wasn't this kids mother there? Picked up that check didn't she? We will hear how offended she is and see her GMA 5 4 3 2

This ia not about Oprah, this is about a thinly veiled racist taunt regarding black people! This is another clear example of what white people & the world think about black people. I don't shop at H&M stores and never will. The question we need to ask ourselves is ehy we give our hard earned money to these people that so totally disrespect us? Stay woke.

imma get this hoodie for my son and imma wear my "bow down #itches" t-shirt and walk proudly down the street.

If you look at the black female models that H&M use this will come as no surprise. Ugly, manly and androgynous is the order of the day at H&M. Shaven headed and manly. 'Do not upstage' being their motto for WOC. Mixed chicks that they use are all 10's though -

That boy is old enough to read and understand wtf that hoodie say...look at his face. How many people saw this image before it was released to the public and exactly how amusing was it to Them? Imagine that!

I have never shopped at that store and never will. I'm curious to know who are the parents of this beautiful nubian child. He is a gorgeous little model, who thought this shit was a good idea, clear people need to check their genetics and see who has monkey genes and it ain't us. From what I hear this is one of those European countries that are totally clueless on social issues. They can go fuck themselves for all I care. I just want to know who approved this shit, now having a little yt boy wearing this fuckery would be more genetically correct #shade.

Lice-prone recessive-gene, straight-haired descendants of the Cro-magnon, Neanderthal, Peking and Java cavemen of ASIA, who are legitimately APE-HYBRIDS, share Type A blood with chimpanzees and Type B blood with gorillas...while Blacks are the original owners of Type O--the blood code that identifies indigenous origins.

The Rhesus monkey deteriorating CARCASS-Asian can't hide the evidence of sexually-deviant, criminal, dog/ape DNA skew while he continues to play mind-games with Blacks.

Straight-haired human APES are only a gene mutation away from growing tails...again!

If more Blacks were competent of cells and frequencies, they would never change their appearance or want to be anything unAfRAkan.

Please wake up. Shit is not about Oprah but it is an example how these fame hoes uniting and
spending thousands of dollars on a black dress to promote the new fake agenda. Which one of these assholes including NOprah will throw on a hoodie with #Notalittlemonkey Oh the Weekend did speak up will he be Americas next nominee

You are correct, Nyabinghi!

Unfortunately, the joke has been on us since the 70's movie...the planet has been ruled by APES for the past 2,500 years.

Thank GOODNESS there is an expiration date.

Anyone here know what happened to FUBU (For Us By US) clothing company?

H&M are not sorry for this ad. They knew exactly what they were doing, which was: Re-enforcing their disdain for black people and continuing to push this mythological, disrespectful and insulting age old theory that blacks originated from apes.

The 'N' word is sounding more like a word of endearment compared to being called an ape or monkey.

You too sound extremely ignorant and unlearned. First of all Africa is a continent. You cannot lump all of Africa into one basket. Which Africans have you engaged with and from what country. What are you basing your comments on?

If you truly knew anything about racism as it pertains to Africa you would know about Apartheid in South Africa and the similarities between the Civil rights movement and the struggle fought by the African National Congress. Clearly that was left out of your American education that you are so proud of.

You sound like the typical American who lives in a box and does not perceive or understand anything outside of Amurika and what you view on TV.

Just last year a white woman by the name by the name of Penny Sparrow was called to order in South Africa because she referred to black people at a beach here in Durban as “monkeys”. The same racism you experience in the States is endured by blacks here in South Africa. The only difference is that American whites are very subtle and condescending with it, whereas in SA they are blatant and in your face about it.

A lot of South African celebrities and personalities are actually boycotting the Brand as we speak. But you wouldn’t know that because you don’t read and are ignorant. As a matter of fact H&M exclusively apologized to South Africa due to all the havoc that add has cause amongst black South Africans. A simple google search would’ve clued you up.

There’s actually a term coined by blacks in South Africa to describe the corporate sector called “WHITE MONOPOLY “.

Blacks in Africa are very much aware of racism and are not and never will be here for it.
