Every time I see her I see someone auditioning for a spot on Soultrain in the 80s. That Afro has got to go. It’s very dated, coupled with her bad fashion sense she looks like a clown. I think she’s trying to make this color thing an issue when Celia Cruz who was dark was able to make it, so can she.

^I agree I think her afro is bomb! The only reason homeboy in the vid t rippin cause them Latinos don't want to associate with anything black....unless there is lots of green involved..*caugh* Vanessa Bryant

^^^ co-sign 11:26. That is a beautiful woman. Shakira and these other white latinas ain't got nothing on her. I know white women hate us because we are the most beautiful people on the planet and that is why they have systems to keep our men, women and children down. Haters going to hate.

only reason call themselves "latina" is b/c speak spanish she said herself when ended convo with young hollywood is " obviously I'm black!!!" her issue seem b a producer commenting on style "they" are a black ppl La negra her name means the BLACK

@11:22 Who are you to tell someone their hair has got to go? You are not the culture compass sweetie

its said her hair is a wig idk So I don't know what she is embracing seem to me playing victim there are pics with her hair straight

She looks like a clown to you, but not to me. I love her sense of old-school style. And she looks damn good wearing it. And Cruz wasn't as dark Amara. And even if Cruz was that dark, Amara should not have to face the discrimination Cruz suffered. Just like I don't have to face the same suffering as my ancestors. Like it or not, we do move forward. More power to Amara.

latina is not a nationality or race where was she born? africa? or dominican republic? or america Miaimi maybe lol

@11:26. . . .What u just said.

The poster (11:22)is a prime example of the self hate and white washing that has been programmed and reinforced in the black communities. If Beyonce wore an afro, there would be NO issue! Katy perry, the Kardashians and a bunch of melanin lacking races can wear our culturally diverse hairstyles and people like the poster you checked are OK with it but the minute a brown woman does, she should CHANGE it.

I guess the poster wants Amara to be at beautyland buying silky straight #4/613@32 inches and represent ghetto hoes. Hell, I don't know

This woman is so fucking gorgeous, it's unreal. She looks like a doll. She reminds me of darker Tyra Banks.

But yes, her afro wig and clothes are too costumy. She would look so nice with a more natural looking afro like Inna Modja (google her) or Solange. Plus she acts to sleazy and it takes away from her natural sexiness.

I troll it like I see it. said...

This sistah so stunningly beautiful. Majority of those "latino's" which is not a race are confused as hell, they just got their wake up call from Trump. I was married to a Puerto Rican for 9 years and even though his father was the color of my mother deep dark mocha, this mf did not consider himself black, they did not like my ass because I was not "latino", yet still I was the only one to give their raggedly son a child and my daughter gave him grandchildren. Them mf's are one confused bunch and they will inbreed to keep the light skinned 8 ether hair texture, the majority of their minds are so colonized into colorisim bullshit. I'm not here for none of these confused assholes and their self hate. They all getting their wakeup call, ask the Asians who thought they were white till that whole LA riot and them yt left their racist asses to fend for themselves, same thing with most of the Mexican acting like they asses white, they all getting their wake up call and I'm here for it. Like another poster said the only time they want to be black is when it involves green.

^^YES!

First of all...the hair looks like a wig. She clearly is trying to assimilate into nationally recognized standards of the black woman while maintaining her differentiation as Latina. And I don't think she should be called a "black woman." Latina Black woman is fine. Black women are about to support and propel into superstardom another example of what we are not and will never be WHILE trying to find some validation within it. She's not an AFRICAN black woman. Shes's a Latina black woman. There is a difference. Let the black Latinas ride for her. Yall ride for our Jasmine Sullivans, Dej Loafs and other authentic african black women and propel them into superstardom for once.

@12:02 sweetheart no one checked me. Who gon check me boo?

Exactly. Now we’re talking about a singer in an image based industry. What someone looks like is about 80% of the equation. To the commenter who said I’m not a cultural compass...well actually I am. If I as a consumer and other consumers like me don’t like her look, well the ship doesn’t float. There’s no one to buy her music and no tickets to sell. Alicia Keys wore cornrows when she first came out. She gave the image that was needed to sell. It had nothing to do with her being biracial or black. I am very “aware” of issues of African Americans in this country. I kno about self hate and I know what is fashionable and that hair just ain’t it in 2018. I said what I said!

Anonymous said...

@2:26

Your comment is ignorant as hell. She is STILL of African ancestry at the end of the day.

Anonymous said...

And STILL Latina....Stop trying to find beauty in everything BUT your own AUTHENTIC self. Her beauty and yours are not the same. Yet, she can take your afro (that is a wig btw) and dance to a salsa beat and have YOU praising her. Do you think she is praising you dancing to your AFRICAN beat in your afro? No.

Black women LOVE caping for the exotic look but get mad when our men choose them over us. SMH

You can fool some people sometime said...

I doubt that's her real hair. I'm sure she's rocking a Dominican press and curl under that.
Either way, many of these "afro latinas" still think they are a notch above black American women, culturally and aesthetically.
Im from the BX originally and grew up surrounded by them.
I also sense phoniness im that clip and think she's using this platform to get ahead and single herself out. After that, the wig's gonna go and she will try to be the next j.Lo.

I Troll it like I see it said it all. I personally don't face these issues with Puerto Ricans or Afro Latinos because they happen to welcome me. They have always been warm, polite and friendly people.....TO ME.

I have seen first hand what they treat others like and it's not so warm and it damm sho ain't friendly. It's downright sad and I find myself not wanting to associate with them even though they're nice to me.

I can't get down with that.

Y'all keep in mind the ships stopped in South America first & then North America. Spanish speaking blacks are of African decent.
And let's be clear colorism exists in every culture. But the self hate over this beautiful sister wearing her natural hair is shameful to watch the ignorance of one's history & culture when clearly non blacks are doing everything they can to mirror YOU. Smh

Anonymous said...

Mirror us YET do everything to separate themselves by distinction with leading with LATINA....I don't know how yall don't see it.... most Haitian women dont say "I'm a Afro-Haitian" or I am a "afro-Jamaican" or I am an "afro Trinidadian" but it's necessary to specify that you're an "Afro-Latina?" What are the other latinas that got off the SAME ship? Euro-Latina? I think I might start specifying that I am an Southern Black woman and see if my exotic beauty is praised as well.

Anonymous said...

Hate to hurt ya feelings but there's a video of Amara's mother taking her real hair out of braids before combing it into this beautiful afro she's become known for. You will see there is no weave in sight.

And as far as her dress sense. It's all apart of her culture. Not trying to be mean, but wearing all those loud ass colors with crazy pieces isn't unusual...it's the norm.

Just an observation said...

Take the wig off. Once she takes that wig off and show her true self, I will call her beautiful. I'm all for being down with black people but her closed doors come from her own community. She's not black. This is a mockery because I don't see her around black people. Her first language isn't English??!!? I agree that she is gorgeous but come on now. Her storyline is the black girl being discriminated against in the music industry, basically. The problem with that is she is Latina who is a dark complexion not a black woman. We have little in common other than skin color. As a black woman, I'm not riding with that logic but I do wish her success.

Anonymous said...

@11:22: Celia Cruz is not that dark. She was/is loved because she made great music....

Anonymous said...

Embracing this the way we have is the PRIMARY reason why we don't have any "culture." We so badly want to be everything BUT black americans. We take a bit of everything and approve it yet NEVER promote what's uniquely us. We should be shamed of ourselves. It's one thing to wish her well....but to gush over a "culture vulture" is asinine.

So many ignorant, uneducated people in here. How is she, a Black Latina, wearing an Afro cultural appropiation when afros ORIGINATED from the African continent??? Certain Africans tribes have have worn afros for centuries. And there are Afro-Latinos that wear afros. You all CAN'T be this fucking ignorant!

And her music, look, and mannerisms are very normal to her culture! Americans have got to be the most culturally ignorant people in the Western Hemisphere. Whitey has done a number on you black folks in here!

Anonymous said...

Ummmm an Afro-Latino man is not the same as an American black man. Ok, bye!

So sad many of us have been indoctrinated into white, light and bright is right. This woman is absolutely GORGEOUS.

she is so beautiful! Absolutely beautiful

She is a dark skinned Beyonce. I am no B Stan. We ALL know if Beyonce was her shade she would be singing at smaller venues and festivals than Solange.. Who, btw is the better singer imo.

Anonymous said...

OMG!!!... She is Soooooo BEAUTIFUL!... She looks like a Real Life chocolate barbie doll! She reminds me of a chocolate Toni Braxton and Kenya Moore Mixture. She is definitely a STAR!... A Star is BORN!... She can sing her voice is amazing, her BEAUTIFUL Face.... and those Amazing thick beautiful curvy Hipz and Thighz! Wowww!... and on top of that???... her personality is Bomb!... I will watch the show just because of her!.. Dayummmmm!

Anonymous said...

Just an observation @ 4:20 PM... YOU are Not that bright!

#1 that is not a wig its her real hair
#2 she is definitely a Black Woman!
#3 She is definitely a Latina woman. Latina is an ethnic identity not a race. There are black Latinas, White Latinas, Mestizo Latinas and all in between.

Who Raised You???... You definitely need to EDUCATE yourself on race, ethnicity and nationality. For the record her race is black, her ethnicity is a Dominican Latina via her Dominican heritage as she was raised by her Dominican mother. and lastly her Nationality is American as she was born in America... Miami, Florida to be exact. Stop being ignorant and think black Americans are the only black people on the planet who can claim the Black Experience.

I love being black American but I hate the ignorance among us.

Winners gonna Win, Losers gonna Lose and Haters gonna Hate! Stop trying to stop someone else blessings and create your own.

This girl is Beautiful and she has all the makings to be a STAR.

4:20 you seem insecure about your blackness, maybe you were teased growing up who knows but YOU are not the judge of what defines Blackness! that Latina is clearly black... smh

Anonymous said...

She's gorgeous, whether that's her hair or not. I love that she chooses to wear a fro over the obviously phony, relaxed weave. She is a BLACK woman, whose ancestors endured the same ship ride as ours that landed here in America. She has the right to call herself Latina, because she clearly grew up within that culture. Latin is NOT a race, it's a culture that anyone raised in that part of the world can claim.
