Disney Donates $1 Million to STEM Programs

In honor of the blockbuster success of Black Panther, Disney invests $1 million in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs...

In a statement released to the media Disney CEO Robert A. Iger explains,
“It is thrilling to see how inspired young audiences were by the spectacular technology in the film. So it’s fitting that we show our appreciation by helping advance STEM programs for youth, especially in underserved areas of the country, to give them the knowledge and tools to build the future they want.”
The money will go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

As they should.

Why should they donate? No other money has to feel obligated to donate money. I mean good cause and all, but ALL films should donate to some charity if that is the case

They are in the business of making money and they are not obligated to give any of it to charity. Why not say the same thing about Tyler Perry. Can you imagine the amount of money black people have paid to see those stupid Medea Moves. We need to stop depending on and expecting the white man to do anything for us.

***deep sigh*** no one is obligated to donate to anything. the fact that the actors, disney, marvel or anyone else wants to use their money or movie proceeds to donate to a worthy cause is a blessing to the children it will benefit, no matter the amount. i seriously hope the people complaining about the amount of the donation or saying that this is the least they could do, are also donating their money to worthy community causes.

A million dollars is all tax deductible. This movie will go beyond the billion dollar mark... I wonder if they gave any of the actors any extra bonus for the outstanding work they did? Probably not :(

SMH you niggas are truly damaged. You made this country and made these businesses, corporations and other nations wealthy with your money and hard work then turn around and say nobody owe you shit. Niggas are slow like Paul Mooney said. Slow as fuck

so many folks seem clueless to how our capitalist society works...
businesses are in it to make money and if they donate a portion to a community - then the appropriate response is thank you...they didn't have to nor does Tyler...we need to stop looking for saviors..this movie and moment should teach us, that we have ALOT of money in our community and we should be spreading it amongst ourselves. We should be supporting our own businesses - go out today and share the wealth buy black, eat black, shop black, share with black folks...

also- unless a bonus is negotiated in the contract, why would they just run around and throw bonuses...it appears that Coogler did as much as he could to support black folks in the business and that's what we need more of, we not gonna say why didn't they do more, that's only a drop..it is, and they didn't have to do it, they did it becuase of their white guilt.

we should turn around and use this as leverage to get more black actors, stylists, stage hands, costume designers, set designers, black film score artists, black writers, black directors, when black folks produce films i hope that they hire predominately black..that's what we do with this power, not worry about who gives handouts and how much they could or could not give...

lets use our own power and build our selves up - fuck worrying about the colonizers!

It is a good cause, even though they are not obligated to do it.

STEM is in the Rise because of the digital era and the emerging technologies to name a few. They need people who are competent in these areas so corporations can stay afloat. Not only will it benefit the corporations. Learning tech skills such as coding will help your own business, if you have one, succeed because you can replicate and make more creative programs to engage with your audience.

If you live in NYC, you can find some tech schools that offer free programs if you have low income. But if you live outside of NY, you may get the same assistance just do your research. Also, if you are a woman they can give you more accommodations because of some of the circumstances we go through including unequal pay.

I say this to say that what they are doing not only shows that they care (even though they are only doing this as tax deductible). But its to open our eyes and get some skills in tech so you can compete in the job market and get paid handsomely for it.

Tootles.

This amount the Disney donated to Stem is LESS THAN 1% of the profit taken in from BLACK DOLLARS

0000000.000000000000.00000000 percentile of 1 of a nearly a Billion

All I can say is lol lol lol

I dont see any of this trickling down to black families at all , do you

1 million is literally like 1 penny to Disney.
Should've started with $50M with plans to continue to finance with a percentage of profits from the Black Panther franchise.
