Idris Elba Cast in The Dark Tower

Actor Idris Elba has been cast in the film version of Stephen King's The Dark Tower...

Stephen King confirmed this week that Idris Elba had been cast as the Gunslinger with Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black.

The film is based on Stephen King's widely popular Dark Tower series about a mystical gunslinger in an alternate universe in search of a dark tower.

Mr. Smash & Dash will get more roles the more self serving and selfish he gets.

Wow. I love the books. I'm a tad skeptical, really hope he doesn't have that British accent for the role.

As a big Stephen King fan, I'm hyped. I'ma try and read through the revised edition of the books before the movie. Lotta damn pages though..

I originally read that it was supposed to be a mini series in the vein of Game of Thrones since the books are so intricate and the story is so involved that it's almost impossible to condense it into a movie

@Bee Gee - never been a big fan of King, but will probably give him another try. How many books are in this series, and which other King books do you recommend? I'm generally adverse to any stories about creepy kids of dead/possessed animals.

Yay!!!! OAN, that's may be THE most fucked up picture of Idris I've ever seen. Well the one with the box braids is the most fucked up, but this comes close.

11:47 - had to respond. I'm a king fan. Honestly, the series is kinda underwhelming. I there are 8 books. IMO the first (The Gunslinger) and the last (Wind through the Keyhole) are the best. Only because I'm a fan did I read all 8 books. I hated the black woman character as it was stereotypically racist. Many readers didn't like the ending but it truly for Roland Deschain's character and was perfect (imho).

If you don't like the really gory kind of books but want to explore Stephen King (he's really a magnificent writer), try the following. I would read Blaze, Rose Madder & D Claiborne 1st to see if u like his writing style.

***Rose Madder: woman escapes her abusive husband & supernatural stuff happens

***Delores Claiborne: lady accused of killing husband & a little bit of supernatural stuff happens

***Blaze: mentally challenged guy attempts to kidnap a baby for ransom

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon: girl gets lost in woods & must survive

Gerald's Game: husband wife sex game goes horrible wrong & some supernatural stuff happens

*it truly FIT

Also read The Gunslinger & Wind Through the Keyhole - good books and reading WTTK out of order won't mess up the series as it someone in the story telling a story.
