Jason Mitchell Denies Sexual Harassment Claims

Earlier this year The Chi star Jason Mitchell was dropped by his agents, lawyers and talent agency and fired from The Chi and the upcoming Netflix western Desperados after he was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women including his Chi co-star Tiffany Boone [click here if you missed that].

In his first interview since, Jason denies the claims...

This week Jason Mitchell told The Breakfast Club,
“There was no situation with Tiffany Boone, she was put in a position, this lady Ayanna Floyd Davis, she went to Deadline and made a statement for Tiffany Boone. She was the only person who ever made a statement at all. The actual reason that I got let go is that Disney saw what was going on with Desperados and they just bought Showtime so they decided not to pick up my option, and of course, I’ve been on the show for what was about to be three seasons. I was nominated for awards, I was asking for more money and all these different kinds of things and they weren’t down to do it. I’m all for the Me Too movement, I think in this situation, Ayanna tried to use it as a really really ugly weapon."
"Tiffany Boone left the show because she got a better job basically, she put in two seasons with us and she got a better job...anybody who knows Tiffany Boone knows she is the epitome of a black woman. If you try her, she will get you together right then and there.”
As for an incident on the set of Desparados Michell explains,
“I’m not going to say I’m not guilty of any allegations because I’m not sure what the allegations are, if that makes sense. I went out with a coworker of mine and she got drunk. I made sure she got home and the next day it all kind of slapped me in my face, I’m not sure if her and her significant other had a situation…I actually had a girlfriend at the time too as well and I felt like I was doing the right thing. The next day they canceled the rehearsal, I told them my side of the story and I don’t know if there was something that I missed…”

I'm amazed at how this narrative was able to be spun into a #metoo situation, based on Jason's version of events. I've also heard stories of Disney child actors who's shows or roles were dropped when they demanded more money. It's totally plausible that Jason was being victimized because he wanted more money. The allegations seemed too unbelievable, because why would a relatively new black male actor harass women on set? It just didn't make sense. I hope Jason is able to regain his upward mobility in the industry.

I do think he was out of order with Tiffany, but I also think he's right about Disney giving him the boot because they didn't want to pay him anymore—he's not the "look" Disney likes when it comes to black folk. Disney ain't worth a damn.

It would be good to hear from Tiffany on this, but I fully understand how she doesn't even have time for this mess. Neither would I.

He's a damn good actor and I hope he lands some jobs that make use of his talent. Good luck to him—he'll need it in Hollywood.
