A St. Louis rapper called on her followers to attack her child’s grandmother, according to claims in a lawsuit filed here this week. Rapper Sexyy Red asked her fans on social media to “kick in the door” of the grandmother’s house and “conduct acts of violence” against her, says the suit filed on Monday.
Nicole Barnes, the paternal grandmother of one of Sexyy Red’s children, said on Dec. 3 she discovered that the rapper had shared her address and picture of her home to Red’s large following on Facebook.
Sexyy Red, whose legal name is Janae Wherry, had asked people to physically assault Barnes, the suit says.
“Sexyy Red and her baby daddy are getting into beefs, for whatever reason, that have nothing to do with my client,” Barnes’ attorney, Steven Weaver, said in an interview on Tuesday.
“We did try to informally resolve it, and her attorneys thought it was a joke,” Weaver said. “And now they’re finding out it’s not.”
The 26-year-old rapper’s spokesperson could not immediately be reached for comment.
She has two children.
Weaver said there is a police report on the incident, and at the time of the post, Barnes and her family members had to move out of her Hazelwood home for their safety.
The suit said Barnes, 51, has been unable to find a new home at a comparable price.
The suit also said she lives in constant fear and has had to go to therapy for emotional distress.
Barnes sued, alleging assault, plus intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress. She asked the court for a judgement of $5 million in damages.
