American Idol Winner Jordan Sparks has been tapped to play the lead in the remake of Sparkle. Her mother will be played by Whitney Houston. The role of Satin will be played by Omar Epps. The screenplay will be written and directed by husband and wife team Salim and Mara Brock Akil, writer/ producers of 'Jump the Broom'.

10 years ago, Whitney was attached to produce a new version of 'Sparkle', but the project was shelved when proposed lead star Aaliyah died in a plane crash in august 2001.
