First the South African Actors Union threatened to sue to halt production on the Winnie Mandela bio-pic 'Winnie' because Jennifer Hudson was chosen to play the title role instead of a South African actor [click here if you missed that], and now Winnie herself is speaking out against the film...
Seems Ms. Mandela is more than a little pissed that she was not consulted about movie. Her lawyers released this statement: "It is difficult to understand how a production bearing the name of an individual who has not been consulted at all could ever be appropriate or tell the full story of that individual's life as media reports suggest this production is intended to. This is certainly the case here, where our client has not responded to allegations and comment which have been made about her, precisely because she has sought to protect her sphere of personal privacy as best she can in extremely difficult and turbulent times."

I do agree that a South African should be given the part. Too many Americans ruin characters when they try to acquire African accents. eg. Sanna Lathan in her new movie. She was supposed to play a Senegalese, but ended up sounding Southern African.
The only people who ever sounded right were Don Cheadle in "Hotel Rwanda" and Anika Rose & Jill Scott in "No. 1 Ladies Detective"
