Tamera Offers Rihanna a Nice Shady Seat [Updated]

I guess actress Tamera Mowry-Housely wants to fight the Navy.

Good girl Tamera, who waited until age 29 to lose her virginity [click here if you missed that], offers tips on maintaining a healthy marriage and uses Rihanna as an example of how NOT to be...

Tamera tells Coco Fab,
1. Don’t be rachet. Be refined.
“Like my grandmother always said, ‘dare to be different’. While it’s popular these days to be the Rihanna to his Chris (okay, sans the abuse fiasco), consider being different from all of the overly sexy, turnt up girls. Guys want someone who stands out from the crowd. Remember, there’s a HUGE difference between wifey and wife! Don’t get it twisted."
[Update: Great conversation starter. Unfortunately not true. Updated conversation here]

Needs to be said more often. You can't have a woman like Michelle in the White House but you got trifling black woman on reality shows. And women wonder why men don't respect them.

Anonymous said...

Well I never! Clutches pearls and wait for the hardcore ratchet hoes to counter her statements.

and so on...the key is to just be genuine to yourself. If you do not like to drink, don't. If you like tatoos, get them, if you enjoy christian rock...gooo you!

As much as I think the "twins" are cute.....they are doing too much. Tia lost me when she came out with a parenting book within 3 months of being a new mom.....like really? You are an expert now? You are the first person to ever have a child, let alone write a book about rearing one? Girl please - she can't tell me nothin'.

Now she knows all about how to keep a man too? WOW, well you guys just have it all - careers, perfect babies, perfect husbands....must be nice. And all for TV.

Ms. Lee said...

Wow. Tamera has always come off as corny to me; Tia? Not so much. I think her name-dropping was a bit messy. Let's hope her marriage to Adam stays intact---seeing as though they broke up often and her family were at odds with her over getting back with him.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone believe she was a virgin till 29?

Anonymous said...

@12:16....You called it!! *Points above*

Anonymous said...

Wellll, that is something that parents are supposed to be teaching their daughters. Sadly many mothers are just as "ratchet" as their offspring. Daddy don't want mommy so daughter doesn't know any better.

Women need to choose good quality men to have babies with and try getting married first. It may not work out, but just give it a try....can't be any worse than the hoeing around you've been doing.

i really just wanna say shut the fuck up Tamera cus Rih is my bish but she made a point i guess. Rihanna gone come for that ass though.

Tamera has said the following on Twitter:

I interviewed with @mycocoafab and NEVER MENTIONED Rihanna period! Not cool! You better clear this up now! I don't use words like slowly.
To cause a controversy @mycocoafab that doesn't exist is NOT cool. I'm I absolutely love @rihanna!
Please don't make up situations at my expense @cocoafab to try to stay relevant. Please don't put words in my mouth. Not cool!

I need her to love her husband and raise her kid, and spell ratchet correctly. Why should she give two shits about what RiRi or anyone else does, unless it effects her money or family? I liked her until she tried to put herself on a pedestal.

@12:17 No one can tell you "nothin'" that's why you're in the mess you're in.

& Tamera's book was based on her own pregnancy experience...anyone can write a book about their own life experiences. You sound slow.

Anonymous said...

If she was a "virgin" till 29, that was some good azz puzzy! (leaves room to smoke cigarette)

Anonymous said...

Well look at who is a mess & who is'nt

Anonymous said...

How many children does one have to birth to be an expert and/or write a book about their experience? Oh I guess you consider Frankie (Keyshia Cole's Mother) an "expert" since she pushed 6-10 of em out? girl bye!

Tippie Toes said...

Tamera already responded that she use Rihanna's name.

As for the advice it's thought provoking but to each it's own

Tippie Toes said...

No I do not believe she was a Virgin until 29

Anonymous said...

@12:20-yes I believe her. I was a virgin until I met and married at 30. Not every woman is hot and looking for meaningless hookups.

Anonymous said...

Tia has always been the more down to Earth twin anyways. She was the first to venture out, get married, and have a child. Tamera is still trying to play catch up with Tia and she, like Ms. Lee said, is just corny.

All women aren't meant to be the same. If you waited until marriage to have sex, GREAT, but please stop thinking that being married propels you above other women who didn't wait.

Bee Gee said...

Maybe it's just me, but her statement has a whole lot of "No shit, Sherlock" quality in it. I've never been a fan of Tia & Tamera or their show. Dated a British sista that thought they asses were the best thing since chili cheese fritos. They put me to sleep on the regular..

I've also never been a fan of people that are brand new to something (i.e. marriage) yet think they can give others advice on how to achieve sustained success at it. You been married a hot minute, baby. How can you possibly tell anyone how to maintain a healthy marriage. I'm not saying it isn't positive and it isn't cool for her to share her experience, but when it comes to marital advice, no thanks. I'll speak with elders in my fam or run up on cool ass old couples in the park for that..

Anonymous said...

@12:24 - with all dues respect, I was sharing my opinion, which just like yours, is valid. I said she can't tell me anything because having my own child was my OWN experience. All mothers and babies are different, but I'm allowed to NOT want her advice, thank you very much.

On a side note, I was not disrespectful or derogatory in my post. You assumed I was "in a mess" because I didn't share your views. Maybe you should work on your blanket stereotypes before commenting about someone you don't know. That to me is more classless than not wanting to buy Tia's book for my own personal reasons.

That is all.

What she said isn't rocket science, nor deep, nor profound.

I'm always weary of preachy people. Just like when Sandra Bullock accepted an award and threw some shade at Tiger Woods and his slew of whores only to discover that her husband Jesse was banging every whore with a tatoo, Sandra was left humiliated and publically embarrassed. If you're a "good woman" then be humble about it as well. Her husband might be getting it on with the Rihannas of the world while she's posting blog interviews.

Anonymous said...

So now you have to be a virgin to be classy?? WOW - Jackie O and Princess Diana would beg to differ.

Ms. Lee said...

Bee Gee---

I've never really been a fan of them either. They are, well, just corny. Tamera is cornier than Tia I might add. My girls are Kim Fields ("Facts of Life", "Living Single"), Bern Nadette Stanis ("Good Times"), Phylicia Rashad ("The Cosby Show", "Cosby"), Jasmine Guy ("Harlem Nights", "A Different World", "School Daze"), and Tisha Campbell ("Martin", "School Daze", "House Party I, II, and III", "Boomerang", "My Wife and Kids").

The Mowry Twins still star in very juvenile productions and it just seems like that even though they're grown, married, and mothers, they'll always be child-like. I commend them for marrying first, saving their virginity (Tamera), and having children last, but their social clock isn't synonymous with every other woman's social clock. I wonder why so many women think that a marriage, for example, places them on an exclusive social, moral, and personal caliber?

How are you by the way? I hope your day is going well. :-)

@Ms. Lee: I am a person who would probably be described as corny, and I am wondering what exactly you think is undesirable about that trait, as compared to some other common personality traits possessed by people whom you admire.

Anonymous said...

Well just add 2 more (wholesome and classy) Black women to the list of women that Bee Gee hates, yes I said hate. Black women just can't win. Well it's mostly not your fault. I love festivals and museums and I have a cat named Cate, her nickname is Cat.

@ 12:41

True but don't don't those who chose to wait and call bullshit if they say they did. Women who broadcast their sexcapades always come off slutty and used up compared to those who don't.
It's really a competition thing among women.every thinks she deserves the best man no matter how much "background" she has but most good men don't want a woman with that type of rep. They don't take her seriously. She's used up.

Anonymous said...

If Tamera (and a lot of other people) would go to the source:(http://cocoafab.com/tamera-mowry-houselys-interview-marriage-and-motherhood/)

Please note that there are quotation marks around what she actually said as well as inside quote marks within Tamera's ACTUAL statement noting her grandmother's saying. This means that Tamera did NOT make that statement. That was the writer's thoughts and opinions adding to what Tamera ACTUALLY said...

Classic example that ppl at times do not fully read and that NO one is immune, no matter how educated you are.

Anonymous said...

The Mowry Twins still star in very juvenile productions and it just seems like that even though they're grown, married, and mothers, they'll always be child-like.

They may come across as child-like but that is because they mostly likely grew up in a loving, non-hostile, drama free home. This is how women turn out when they are raised and taught be respectful young ladies. Because they vetted well with their choice of mates I'm sure their sons will grow up to be Genlemen.

Rihanna is complex to me. She will find her way :)

@Ms. Lee - I'm doing well, sis, as I hope you are. I agree with your post. Maybe it's the excitement of being married combined with her position as a celebrity/role model. I can respect that - I guess there's an audience for her, it just doesn't include people like me..

Snitch, you should update your post. Tamera has called out @mycocoafab directly for inserting Rihanna's name in her interview to stir up controversy. I guess it worked. Lol.

However Tamera seemed pretty adamant she never said a thing about her. Yes it was a low blow but these blogs and tabloids etc are out here getting desperate. And what better way to garner publicity or controversy - by dropping Rihanna's name. Job done.

@1:40, Why the anger? Is it fair to assume by your comments that you are one of the ones that grow up "loving, non-hostile, drama-free home" and still turn out the opposite? I don't know why you think I am delusional.

What I asked was for you to explain what exactly you think is undesirable about that trait and to make your point by comparing the "corny" person to some traits possessed by the people whom you admire that are not corny.

Notice in my original message that I didn't accuse you of using the word "admire," I was asking you to tell me what traits you admire. I do not see how I am creating scenarios simply by asking you for an example.

What Tamera said has a lot of truth to it, but she has to realize that not every female grew up in a Christian household like she and her siblings did, in which I'm sure influence her views on life. Those who end up attacking her probably never had that or a Grandmother/Mother teach her what it takes to be a woman of real class. Having class these days does not measure up to the standards of being classy back in the day. There was a time that a classy lady wouldn't walk around almost naked, cursing like a sailor and/or dance provocatively, but now we have the Rihanna's, Beyonce's, Madonna's and Lady Gaga's doing so and yet, the public deems them classy.
Maybe she should have not used Rihanna as the example to get her point across.

Let's Be Real Here Tamera Was Right said...

Although I'm not a big of what the Mowry sisters are doing career wise NOW, (I was a big fan back in the 90s, loved Sister Sister!) I can appreciate what Tamera said. These two chicks are among the VERY FEW who don't come across as extremely horny and trashy whores looking for a come up and singing satanic music...like that lost hoe Rihanna. I feel extremely bad for the folks who idolize that lost whore. I believe her and Chris Brown need to be up in a cell together because they are both crazy as hell! I put them in the same boat with the Kardashians and all the other in your face fame whores who NEVER sit down and stay out of the public eye. Also, Tia and Tamera were more so apart of the 90s era when people knew when to sit their asses down sometimes and give other people a chance to shine. Really people? You think Tamera is jealous of some Rihanna? Tamera and Tia have been in the business for like 20 years or more! They have worked with some of the greats. Why would they be jealous of a chick that hasn't even been around a decade? LOL. As sick as I am of Beyonce, even she has a much longer resume than Rihanna.

Women who wait til marriage to have sex are more respected. They may be considered odd to SATANIC standards, but at least at the end of the day they are CLEAN down there and haven't let every mo joe in the world run through their asses! People who sleep with any and everybody are always considered stinkin to me. It's like you know their asses smell. It's the norm in the BLACK COMMUNITY to have children out of wedlock these days. It's praised in our community. It's funny because in other cultures they embrace marriage FIRST, even if the marriage mate is CHOSEN. I'm not big on marriage but I applaud anyone who lives their lives the RIGHT way.

A child should be conceived in a loving UNION, not some bastard baby who doesn't even know who their father is and living up in Section 8 while momma stolls the streets with her fake weave and tight tacky clothes trying to be cute! In addition, mama is about 250 pounds! This is the trash you see NOW.

I see the skanks who get on Facebook and take 1,000 pics of themselves pregnant and all and kissing THEIR BABY DADDY or their MAN. It's NEVER their husband. So yeah, I can respect Tamera. Regardless of if you like her husband or not, she did it the right way.

Bee Gee said...

If you look up the actual article on the website, you'll see that it doesn't match what snitch posted.

In Snitch's capsule of the article, the entire statement is presented as a quote from Tamera. On the website however, Her only quote in that entire paragraph was the “Like my grandmother always said, ‘dare to be different".

On the website, everything after the quote above is not quoted, meaning it was not Tamera's statement and was probably the statement of the author of the article on website.

So one of two things happened:

1. Snitch or someone that Snitch got the info at the top of this page from took the article excerpt and edited to make it look as if the entire paragraph (including the Rihanna/Chris reference) was a quote from Tamera.

2. The website originally published the paragraph as an entire quote from Tamera, then later edited it to quote only the first sentence and re-published.

Being that Bossip's whack ass site and other present the excerpt the exact same way as the cocoa website does (with only the first statement being Tamera's quote), it's clear that the text was edited here on RWS to make it look like the entire statement was a quote from Tamera. Snitch you a fool for that one..

That's just her opinion, the fact that she has little experience with men, sex, relationships or whatever the case may be means her opinion is backed up by what? Not every woman wants to be corny ass tamera and not every non married woman who chooses to do whom and what she wants is not a whore either. She probably secretly wants to be like rihanna but can't because her career and reputation depend on being corny.

Anonymous said...

I remember the other day in another thread I said that I waited until marriage and Tippie and Nicole tried to come for me. They tried it but it didnt work.

Saving yourself for your husband is the right way and you do not have regrets. Most women I speak to who gave it up has so many regrets. I thank God I didnt give alot of men my soul, body and mind. Do you women know how valuable you are. If you give your body up early than you are bound to sleep with so many men and why get married because what is for marriage that sacredness is gone. Im not trying to make other women feel guilty or low but I am beyond glad I waited and saved myself. My husband did not get me until my marriage day and I have his total and utmost respect. There are few women like the amazing Tamera.

People should keep their sexual business to themselves (because it's supposed to be private) and they shouldn't set themselves upon a pedestal and lower the bar on other women becuse else because they didn't follow your pattern of love and sex. If you're going to speak, speak on you and don't compare someone else's lifestyle to yours. Virgins go through highs and lows with a man just like non-virgin women
