Nelsan Ellis' Family Reveal His Addiction Issues to Help Others

This week True Blood fans were stunned after the sudden death of Nelsan 'Lafayette' Ellis [click here if you missed that].

Nelsan's family graciously opens up about his cause of death in hopes of helping others...

A statement from Nelsan Ellis' manager reads,
Nelsan’s father has bravely agreed for me to share the circumstances of Nelsan’s heart failure. Nelsan has suffered with drug and alcohol abuse for years. After many stints in rehab, Nelsan attempted to withdraw from alcohol on his own. According to his father, during his withdrawal from alcohol he had a blood infection, his kidneys shut down, his liver was swollen, his blood pressure plummeted, and his dear sweet heart raced out of control.
On the morning of Saturday July 8th, after four days in Woodhull Hospital, Nelsan was pronounced dead. Nelsan was a gentle, generous, and kind soul. He was a father, a son, a grandson, a brother, a nephew, and a great friend to those that were lucky enough to know him. Nelsan was ashamed of his addiction and thus was reluctant to talk about it during his life. His family, however, believes that in death he would want his life to serve as a cautionary tale in an attempt to help others.

His "dear sweet heart"? Yeah I don't think they're telling the whole story.

RIP again.

R in NYC says:

This reminds me of a man I use to date's father. He drinks so much that if he stops, he will die. He was so addicted he mostly drank and ate very little. He was so emaciated looking to the point you could see his bones.
It's really tragic this young man sought help and tried to kick it on his own but ultimately died.
I was on YouTube last night and there's a video of Maia Campbell telling L L Cool J she doesn't want his help.
Addiction is truly the devil.

Yeah you can't kick alcoholism cold turkey. Especially doing it without doctors supervision it will kill you. That's why they put you on Med's if you have it as a decease. If you have a seizure it can stop your heart.
