Wyclef Defends his Hatian Residency Status

Wyclef Jean, who is facing rejection of his candidacy for President of Haiti because he hasn't lived in the country consecutively for five years,  has a perfectly good reason why he should still be allowed to run.

Wyclef's camp is blaming his music career. His brother Samuel Jean says,
"Prior can mean at any time. Clef has property in Haiti. In terms of his career, he travels a lot. It would be hard to find him in one place for three months, let alone five years."
and Wyclef believes Haiti doesn't need a President who lives there anyway. He recently told the press,
"As we navigate into the 21st century, I think you're going to need a president that is not just a local president of the country. You're going need a global president and that means not just staying in Haiti but going outside of Haiti and speaking to donors and creating more allies and letting them know Haiti is ready for the transformation."
