BuJu Banton Seeking Lighter Sentence

With less than 2 weeks left till his sentencing date BuJu Banton files papers seeking a shorter prison sentence for his February conviction of conspiring to set up a cocaine deal in 2009...

BuJu is facing 15 years for introducing a fed informant he met on an airplane to a coke connect in Florida [click here if you missed that].

In court documents filed last Thursday, BuJu’s attorney, David Markus, says a 15-year-sentence is “way more than necessary” in his client's case. Arguing Banton’s limited participation in the drug buy, his charitable work in Jamaica and his otherwise clean record entitle the singer to a reduced sentence.

The documents include letters of support for BuJu from actor Danny Glover, reggae singer Stephen Marley and Atlanta Hawks basketball player Etan Thomas.

BuJu is set for sentencing June 23.
