Cee Lo Signs on for Sparkle

Cee-Lo Green is the latest artist to sign on for the re-telling of the 1976 classic blaxploitation flick Sparkle, about a trio of sisters who form a singing group to escape life in the ghetto...

Cee-Lo, who'll play the opening act for the sisters, joins Jordin Sparks in the title role, Whitney Houston as the mom, Carmen Ejogo as Sister and Tika Sumter as Deloris. Derek Luke has been cast as Stix, Omari Hardwick as Levi and Mike Epps has as Satin Struthers.

Unlike the original set in New York, this re-telling takes place in 1968 Detroit during Motown's heyday.

R. Kelly has been tapped to write the musical score.
