No Public Memorial for Whitney Houston

Plans for a huge public memorial for Whitney Houston have been canceled at the request of her family...

New Jersey mayor Cory Booker confirmed plans to hold a Michael Jackson style memorial at the 18,000 seat Prudential Center in Newark had been scrapped
“In compliance with the family’s wishes the city is not moving forward with any public ceremony,”

Instead, a private service will be held at New Hope Baptist Church where Whitney sang as a child.

A spokesperson for the funeral home entrusted with the arrangements explained the family's decision,
“They thank all of the fans and friends and the media, but at this time this is their private time.

“They shared her for 30 some years with the city, with the state, with the world.”

“This is their time now for their farewell to their daughter, mother.”
