First off this ho ain't no damn 23, I'm gonna need her 45 yr looking ass to not try the public with the "stage age" second he/she looks a bit trannish, and is TP behind this stunt queen move, I'm not seeing no 23 yr old having this type of money for this stunt queen move, I just can't with these stunt queens.

She's probably cray and no one wants to work with a crazy. Reminds me of that female actor that wanted to play Cat Woman and showed up at the producers office dressed in character. She's never been taken serious in Hollywood since and is blackballed.

Well hey she got us talking about her

She's using the wrong bait, a young nigga offering his boi pussy to Tyler Perry has a better shot than some fish. Just sayin'

There are better ways to spend $1500. I hope she paid essentials first, and no, not the stylist to sew in the Remi....

She shoulda posed on the billboard in a Madea dress holdin' a gun in one hand and a greasy ass bbq rip in the other.. she'd be cast'd by now..

Anonymous said...

Well the idea is clever! I mean, she was no one now she is on the news and getting a buzz. So if Tyler Perry doesnt cast her maybe someone else will!

It just seems disrespectful to others with the same amount of talent with not as much money.
I seriously doubt that spending 1500 on a self-absorbed billboard will do anything but prove that she has money to waste on what she wants.
It's not making her homeless, I bet she has a car, a job and education.
It puts him on the spot, unfairly, when there are certain procedures that you have to follow to go about being cast in any films.
He may already have actresses in mind to put in his films, or possibly more receptive to talent that is fresh, new and eager to please, and know to go about auditioning in the right way.
I wish her the best, but I have a bad feeling about this.

In these days you gotta do what you gotta do.

^^^Yeah, you have to take risks in life or you'll always be another nameless face in the crowd.

I have no respect for Perry's films, but if that women has found her passion in life, she needs to follow her heart and make it happen.

Many black people stay losing because they never venture beyond mediocrity.

Exclusive: Meet Racquel Bailey, the Actress Behind the Tyler Perry Billboard
By Yolanda Sangweni
Aspiring Actress Puts Up Billboard Plea for Tyler Perry
Racquel Bailey is ready for her big break in Hollywood, and Tyler Perry better heed her call.

The 23-year-old New Jersey single mom spent her last paycheck to pay for an ad with the message: "Let me be your next leading lady," on a billboard 2 miles away from Perry's Atlanta film studio. Since then she's gotten lots of applause for her boldness, but still no call from Tyler Perry.

She spoke with ESSENCE.com about why she loves Tyler Perry, her dreams of winning an Oscar, and the Hollywood actors who inspire her.

ESSENCE.com: First of all, you're a brave woman for putting up a billboard of yourself trying to get an acting gig from Tyler Perry. Tell us about it.
RACQUEL BAILEY: I wanted Tyler Perry to see me. These directors get hundreds of headshots everyday, so what sets me apart? I constantly send out headshots and go to auditions where I'm told, "You're fantastic," but then I don't get the role. So I'm like, "What's happening here?" This business is all about who you know, and I just got tired of putting my fate in everybody else's hands.

ESSENCE.com: How did you end up putting up a billboard?
RACQUEL: I called up the ad company and they asked, "What do you want to market?" And I said, "Myself." They laughed, and asked again. Then I gave them the whole story and they said, "Wow, that's excellent."

ESSENCE.com: What's been the response so far? Have you heard from Tyler Perry's camp?
RACQUEL: I think everyone is kinda rooting me on and commending me for taking such a risk. I haven't heard from Tyler Perry yet. The last I heard, his office gave no comment.

ESSENCE.com: There are a lot of directors, why target him?
RACQUEL: I'm very inspired by his work. He gives African-American actresses a chance in this industry, and I wanted to work with him.

The thirst is amazing these days....SMMFH

I guess...but landing a role is only that easy for people who are down with a suck or fuck here and there. Or for people like Gabby Sidibe who are needed for roles for specific body types. I hope she gets work, but I'm not so sure this is the way to do it. She could've used the $1500 to travel to auditions/casting calls. [shrugs]

.................
Exactly it's a bit MANIPULATIVE...if you think about it

Anonymous said...

Well she is motivated, determined and creative.

@8:14 EXACTLY

I was thinking that this was a very smart & creative way to get noticed if nothing else. Since she is in the acting business (but unknown) what better way to market yourself.
Manipulative motives....I'm not sure but it's not like she can strong arm him into doing it.

I doubt if she will get the part but at least half of her mission was accomplished.

Didn't I read that Halle did this?

OK. She said forget a flyer, I'm getting a billboard. She took this to another level. She did something she believed in...marketed HERSELF. She took a chance and gave all she had to give.

Whether she sold what she had, worked her fingers to the bone, or begged, borrowed or stole, she made herself known. If nothing, it shows drive and ingenuity.

At least, she didn't wait until she was 40 and said I wish I hadda...

I can only applaud her.

I remember seeing people place ads on billboards stating they were looking for a job when the housing market bubble burst. Sure, there were hundreds of other people with the same talents vying for the same jobs, but the ones on the billboards put themselves on another level to be seen and noticed.

And quite honestly, I'm tired of seeing the same black actors in the movies (Not knocking Gabby and Morris, but DAMN!). It's like there is but a handful when actually, there are many talented actors just begging for a break.

Anonymous said...

It only cost 1500 dollars for a billboard?

Anonymous said...

@The One and Only ANON1 :

Male or female (not sure which you are), but you said it best! Probably the most well put together comment on here. You and people like myself understand what it is to market yourself and be your own PR team.

Nevermind the simpletons. We are well aware with how small their box is; just look at the comments.

Tyler doesn't put unknowns in his films. he uses washed up actors or wanna be actors from the music industry. to be in tyler's play is more realistic, but his movies, not happening. name one movie where he cast a no name in the lead role...

by doing this billboard and he hires her, she'd get more attn than tyler perry. he aint having that. i dont care how humble or god loving he says he is. written by tyler perry, produced by tyler perry, directed by tyler perry, starring tyler perry, co-starring tyler perry, man in blazer played by tyler perry. where would she fit into the equation?

Anonymous said...

can't knock her hustle. she's got nothing to lose so no hate here. she'll get something from this

Anonymous said...

I don't think Tyler will respond.. If so, you will have billboards all around town in each major city with copycats trying the same thing. It's imaginative, but not practical. If she did it and "win", then 100 more actors/actresses will/can do the same thing. We'll be driving around looking at "out of work actors" bill boards all day lol...

Anonymous said...

Brave, yet stupid at the same time.

Beat the pavement and audition like every other actor please.

She should have saved that $1500, get herself some headshots and acting classes to brush up her skills....

There was a movie in a 50's about a unknown white actress buying a billboard at Union Square. She ended up creating quite a buzz and ending up becoming infamous in her own way
