Backlash Over Whitney Houston Funeral Costs

Taxpayers in Newark New Jersey are unhappy about being stuck with a $187,000 bill for Whitney Houston's funeral...

The amount, roughly five percent of Newark's annual police budget, was used to cover the 200+ police officers needed to secure the streets surrounding New Hope Baptist Church during Whitney Houston's funeral.

However, the backlash began long before the cost to the city was made public, after Newark residents realized they would not be allowed to get close to the church while Whitney Houston was being laid to rest.

Newark resident Quincy Ruffin tells CBS News,
“I think it’s absolutely ridiculous when you have people who are unemployed and homeless, people walking up and down the streets.”

“If they wanted it to go that far, do that much, they should have been the ones providing for it.”
