In lieu of flowers Whitney Houston's celebrity pals were asked to give donations to the Whitney E. Houston Academy of Creative and Performing Arts in East Orange New Jersey.
So far the donations have been underwhelming...
A Newark school district accountant spoke to local newspapers expressing her dismay that the academy had only received $40,000.
According to reports Sony Records was the largest contributor with $25,000 and Jay Z and Beyonce contributed the second largest amount with $10,000.
Houston Academy Principal Henry Hamilton plans to use the money to establish a scholarship and update performing arts equipment.
