Damn, everybody is stage a comeback or getting a reality show. I blame the record companies and managers for not paying these people decently and we are stuck 20 yrs later hearing their sob stories. Give up the hush money,so they will go away when their 15 minutes are up.

Soul for Real Staging a Comeback...

Because...?

Yea, it was me that said that! said...

before corporations took over the music industry, one did not have to be a MEGA STAR to be put on. All you had to do was have talent and let your talent work for you.

You must be 12 years old @ 12:12 . . . and I bet you think Nicki Minaj invented hip hop

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ihhJCPYHuk&list=RDCx0xzO73Amo

yall folk need to learn some history and stop using money as the barometer for talent and who should be put on. it's getting old and the music industry is so jacked up today, it's impossible for the real talent to get a break because corporations make one or two superstars and the rest of the talent just has to fall back till they run that artist into the ground, then they'll be looking for another one.

but to let real talent on? it's ludicrous and too much like right!

If cash money young money can make music, if jay z can rule the industry with his wife and his concubine; if kanye can try to rule music as a black skinhead; then anybody from the old school deserves a "comeback."

these new artists and got nothing but money for the strip club!

What they need to be getting styled for is an episode of UNSUNG! Don't nobody want to see ya'll trying to make a come back. If the 4 of ya'll one album having asses don't go back to Wendy's drive thru, you better, get my order right and I want my fries hot.

Old School artists has plenty of fans who are sick of the garbage being pushed out today as "new music" for the sake of "changing the game.'

all the industry is doing now is creating are new avenues for their real love: PORN!!!

I wonder why all these washed up 90's entertainers never thought to back to school after twenty years if they haven't gotten any steady work? At least get behind the mic/studio or camera. Sheesh! Grow up

I told y'all before they are letting any and everybody get a reality show. And Heavy D isn't around anymore to help them.

My girlfriends and I were all sitting around one night drinking wine, eating spring rolls and discussing when Soul For Real were going to reunite musically, SAID NO ONE EVER!

Does anybody besides me believe that James Evans from Good Times is these boys daddy?

Twitter and IG are worse than fb. People post pics all their business on these sites. I'm sure that this stylist signed a contract stating that this show was not to be discussed publicly. People can't hold water. So glad I deleted my IG app. and I hide my fb page but I still spy periodically.

@12:28 PM James Evans was too fine to be these dudes dad. I believe Craig Mack had more to do with those genetics. Craig Mack and K Solo have to be on these guys family tree somewhere!

@12:23

That's funny. See 'Tyler Craig', on YT about his drive through experience. The one with the large white letters in the background. He has a few with just his name as the title. It's hilarious!

I LOVED Soul for Real, those UGLY boys delivered good vocals and nice feel good songs. They had a remake of "ain't no sunshine when she's gone" and that little ugly boy sung that in a feel good way.
I personally have never forgotten about them because they came through with good sh*t in the 90's, but BOO to a comeback because they ain't gone do nothing but comeback singing simple-minded s*x and money songs like the current group of useless yuck singers, Tyrese was all over-the-top bragging about TGT bringing the REAL RnB back, and what are they doing, singing dumb sh*t while Ginuwine is drunk/high. Please don't comeback if you're just going to sing silly songs for Lil wanye to add a rap to.

@12:22 pm. Right on! And back in the day, the record companies developed artists. I saw an interview with Kindred and the Family Soul - which is an artist that consistently puts out good music. They talked about how they almost gave up because the record companies told them that their brand of R&B was not urban and edgy enough. In other words, they did not talk about fvcking, drinking and smoking enough. And that there are a lot of talented artists out there who cannot even get in the door. They ended up focusing on the neo-soul route and had some success. I saw them live and it was one of the best concerts I have seen.

They are some talented R&B artists out there but they are going to be overshadowed by this current brand of coonish, tricking hip hop. Dudes rapping about Bugattis and would be arrested on sight if they walked into the dealership.

Whoa 12:48 PM! Even if nobody ever heard of Soul For Real, one thing they can rest assured about is the fact that they are UGLY.

^^^"yo ass betta get them fries right FOR REAL"..ok ok imma stop

Magick said...

Reality TV=the go-to format for any 90's singer to make some kind of comeback.

Although I liked their music, this shit is just aggravating with all these supposed "comebacks"

Anybody remember "K-Ci and JoJo come clean?".....it probably lasted all of one season

Anonymous said...

a sizzle reel is usually used to pitch a show idea...so all this means is they are trying to get a show...i would have definitely gone the unsung route, i don't see any network picking this one up, there's no audience for it, at least not enough for advertising dollars.

sorry boys...

Anonymous said...

Can we get the remaining members of Hi-5 back together too??

Magick said...

@1:23, can't do that. The lead singer passed some years ago.

zeeedeee said...

Yes magick I remember that KC and Joe Joe show..what I remember most about the one episode that I sat thru was that you couldn't understand not one damm word they were sayin..they may as well been talkin Spanish..damm talk about subtitles..do you remember that one with dry hill where all they did was fight?..they got one episode outta me too

zeeedeee said...

Dru hill..sorry

Magick said...

BAHAHAHHAAA@Zeeedeee, for real though. I think I tuned in for all of two episodes of KC and Jo Jo.....naw, never knew dru hill did one. I missed that but I am sure it was worth missing

zeeedeee said...

@magick lol yes yes it really was worth missin too..the physical fights they were havin..i mean they were squabbin too!..one minute they were doo wappin next minute they were locked together on the ground..pure comedy but I couldn't take not one more hour after that

I think these boys had just as many #1 hit as Xscape on billboard r&b shit. I said hit because it was only one. I guess that qualifies you for a comeback attempt with the mandatory reality show to document it..

You must be 12 years old @ 12:12 . . . and I bet you think Nicki Minaj invented hip hop

I was really being facetious but you had to go there. Lol. You is funneee trying to school me on old school music and assuming I'm 12 because I don't think that this group is entitled to "stage a comeback."

Candy Rain was a catchy tune but it damn sure won't solidify S4R's position in the great R&B Music Hall of Comeback Fame. If that's the case, all of the 90s one hit wonders would deserve a spot.

Talented groups like Jodeci, Silk, 112, Dru Hill, etc can stage an unlaughable "comeback" because they actually had a strong fan base and hitS (PLURAL). Hell, even Next would be justified before S4R to stage a damn comeback!

It's cute of you to defend them, and I'm not against anybody trying to make some paper. But S4R should just put out music if that's what they're trying to do and stop using the same old cheap, tired, recycled bullshit PR stunt (Twitter, Instagram, etc) to generate buzz about something that hasn't even materialized. Good music speaks for it itself. So save all your pontification for the youngins who really need it.

And no, I'm not "12" but I'm often told that I look at least 10 years younger than I actually am. So thanks for the "compliment".

ms mac said...

LMAO @ 12:23!! Now that was some funny shit. You got me doing the hard chuckle.

zeeedeee said...

Dammit beegee stop!..i cannot stop laughin!

Magick said...

@zeeedeee, yeah another reason I have avoided these so called reality shows for all these years

@Bee Gee, exactly yo. Now all we need is for Intro and UNV and the 90's comeback will be complete with this bullshit.

Anonymous said...

Yea, it was me that said that! had the best comment up here!!! Yeah, some of this generation don't get it at all...despite the fact Soul For Real was not as successful as a group like Jodeci doesn't mean they shouldn't be given a comeback chance and a show. Claudette Ortiz was not a big star either but yet she managed to get on R&B Divas! You know why? She had talent! That girl can blow and plus she is pretty too...Monifah was not as big as Mary J Blige but she could also sing and managed to be on the show too!

What I'm trying to say is that if you had a great, timeless hit back in the day, you deserve a comeback and Soul For Real's albums were PURE 90s R&B and ALL those guys could sing and dance! They may not be good looking, but hey, back then everything wasn't about looks and a big ass...everything wasn't about sex tapes and dissing somebody else on social networks...that's some whack, gay 21st century BS that us old school lovers can't stand!!!

Weren't one of these negores arrested for credit card fraud?

*goes to google*

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah...I remember:

Brian Dalyrimple, of ’90s R&B group Soul For Real has been indicted in Georgia on 145 counts of aggravated identity fraud, according to reports.

Dalyrimple, who has been running from Duluth police since February, also faces related charges from forgery to aggravated bank fraud, after being apprehended in North Carolina with his infant son, who has been missing for well over a month.

Brothers Jason and Andre Dalyrimple, both former members of the R&B group, will be indicted for their role in the identity theft case, though police have yet to specify their exact charges. No word as to the involvement of the fourth member of the group, Christopher Dalyrimple.

The police became aware of the Dalyrimple brothers’ criminal activity when a $12,000 fraudulent charge was traced by a California victim, to Duluth. The victim notified Duluth police that false checking and credit accounts had been set up at a Georgia bank, which they then traced back to two addresses in a local apartment complex, both rented by Brian Dalyrimple, using two false names.

When the police searched the apartments they turned up a variety of fake driver’s licenses, said Major Woordruff, a Duluth police officer. They also found a “multitude of fraudulently obtained credit cards, documents for bank loans, checking and savings accounts in fraudulent names, account and routing numbers belonging to legitimate accounts and documents containing identifying information of many individuals.”

According to police, Brian Dalyrimple was leasing at least four other apartments, all under different aliases. Laborah Crawford, the mother of Brian’s infant child, was arrested immediately following the search, and is being held in Gwinnett County Jail, on similar charges.

It is estimated that the Dalyrimples struck over 260 victims and at least 8 banks, for as much as $1,000,000.

Soul For Real, for real?

@magick yes I understand..i gotta tell you tho the one that I am pissed that i missed was the Bobby and Whitney one..now that I would have watched all the way thru..not to clown eithier..i l had read a couple of unauthorized books about her and knew there was more to her than her public persona..i just wanted to see for myself but that one I'm sorry I missed

Magick said...

@zeeedeee, you didn't miss much though. Although I said I avoided this bullshit for all these years I actually tuned in to that one. Bobby always acting a fool and Whitney always seemed spaced out with her catch phrase "hell to the naw"....it was a train wreck that you couldn't stop watching though. I am not saying I watched the whole season but I did tune in a few times to see the madness.

Madness describes it perfectly....

They came to my town as well as Jon B., Case, Adina Howard, Changing Faces and Ginuwine. it was a definite ode to the 90's. Anyway, when S4R came on stage the crowd went crazy, even after their sound team failed them. The did a tribute to Heavy D (so hard to say goodbye to yesterday) which was beautiful. Now here's the gag; they kept mentioning the new music they had and the crowd gave them crickets because once again their team wasn't ready. They ended up singing Candy Rain a total of 5 times. I have a hunch that is how their "comeback" is gonna go.

3:44pm, I see your point and I hear what you're saying. But isn't a comeback from a musician supposed to involve music at some point?? Since when has a comeback been defined by airing dirty laundry and private moments for the world to see?

Claudette and Monifah both had their reality show stints and so far neither one of them have done anything with the exposure. They can blow all day long but how about they should try blowing into a mic for a change if they want to be taken seriously as artists. And I'ont wanna hear nothin' 'bout they can't get a record deal 'cause if they were smart enough to dodge obscurity for a television reality show, they should be smart enough to drop a few of those same reality show dollars to drop a single.

All I'm saying is that this comes off like a ploy to get paid for the sake of getting paid instead of reinvigorating an old fan base with somethin' they can feel. #PlayedOut.
