As I stated in the Luda thread. I gasped at the commentors comment when he/she mentioned that James had died. As I've been watching TFPOB all evening. So sad that he died on NYE! And didn't make it to see 2014. I'm sure I read somewhere that there was going to be a FPOB reunion show. Would have loved to see how that would've worked with them all being grown now.
I loved me some uncle Phil on TFPOB!

One of my fab episodes is the one where Ashley's being bullied at school. And the girls parents go over to the Banks' to meet with uncle Phil and aunt Viv. And uncle Phil loses his cool by knocking the girls dad out LOL! The girls dad says "I think you must have her confused with yo mama" and uncle Phil knocks his ass out cold. Lmao! That episode was pure hilarity. From aunt Viv wanting to drag the wife. To uncle Phil knocking out the girls dad.

RIP James Avery! :(

Wow. Rest in Peace, sir.

Not to rant but I think one of the most cruel conditions of our society is the age of retirement/social security being set at 65. By the time you retire and qualify for it, many are too old to enjoy it. I think that's a sinister design. My parents are in their mid-60s and were fortunate enough to retire at 55 and lead healthy active lives to this day. But so many are not as fortunate and need/deserve those benefits long before age 65.

@3:34 That poster is referring to the rumors of James being gay. I read a few years ago that he came out the closet. I was surprised to read on another site that his wife was at the hospital with him. She went to get a drink or something to eat and when she came back he'd died. So sad!

Damn, This some sad news...
R.I.P Mr. Avery
You are missed

@Bee-Gee:

They want folks to work to continue to make the rich richer. They gotta milk them for all they are worth. And yes, it is sinister. But the American upper-class and wealthy are sinister anyway.

Best episode when Will convinced Uncle Phil to wear a hairpiece only to have him snatch it off in disgust after an evening of great pretense! RIP Mr. James Avery, thx for the laughs and fun memories.

So that's what Jada meant when she posted on her Facebook that a loved one passed away. RIP Uncle Phil.

@4:04 I know right? The wrong (good) people are dying. Meanwhile the bad ones are still here on earth wreaking havoc...

He was at my daughter's high school a few months back. She said he was nice and funny. Spoke about he started acting. R.I.P Mr. Avery.

I liked him on the Sherri show (Lifetime network from 4-5 yrs ago), even though he looked a little frail and was always standing behind the kitchen counter like it was a prop. I think he suffered from diabetes.

RIP

Oh wow!! My earliest member of him is of the recurring role of the rev on AMEN - lord I hope the bury that God-awful toupee w/ him.

And yes UNC gets much love. That entire show ( except when the original aunt left) was well cast. The characters were convincing and the script was/is believeable. Thank u for ur FANTASTIC contributions to television. U r loved and mos def will be missed #restpeacefully

4:04- I hear u ...keep in mind that there's NO REST FOR THE WICKED

As far as the rumours go he never struck me as hetero . He was a man first. A respectable one. Its the e.j.s (magic s son) and the hood rats (rws poster) of the world that make u HATE GAYS. It never what u do, but HOW U DO #HNY

There is no way that I would have surgery after the age of 45. It s risky at any age, but at 68, it was a recipe for disaster. God bless his soul.

RIP. HOW SAD. My prayers goes to his family.

Loved Uncle Phil in Fresh Prince. So sad to hear of his passing. With today's technology and the research poured into open heart surgery, I'm surprised the complications weren't caught or couldn't be treated before it got too far. My sympathies and condolences to the family. RIP, Uncle Phil!

@Bee Gee... and what about the ones that STILL can't retire at 65. I hope Obamacare helps those who work past their retirement age just to get the benefits.

Anonymous said...

8:11 After 45 yrs. is when most surgery is needed and you will have it when you feel the pain. Happy New Year!

RIP Uncle Phil. Loved his voice -- you could tell he was a trained actor.
Black folk: We gotta drop that weight! Uncle Phil carried that weight in the belly -- worst place for the heart and cancer.
We must extend our lifespan. And I say this in the mirror
BTW, Happy New Year to all!

@Bee Gee, Retirement age is actually 67 for everyone born after 1960. The SSA is really hoping you die first, because the trust fund is slowly vanishing. By the time we reach full retirement age, it'll probably be gone: that's really the most fucked up part of it all.

^^^^ I didn't know that.

I loved the episode when Will shot the Music Video for BBD in the Mansion and all the furniture was put outside and then it got rained on.. HAHAHAHA!! Then he sang " And I am Telling You" to Uncle Phil. That was so effing funny!!
