Audra McDonald Makes Broadway History


Actress Audra McDonald made Broadway history this week after winning her sixth Tony Award…

Audra McDonald won the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play on Sunday for her role as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill Dinner.

This is Audra's sixth Tony Award, giving her more Tonys than any other actress in Broadway History.

In her acceptance speech Audra thanked her late parents for disobeying doctors orders to put their hyperactive child on meds and instead finding out what she was into and pushing her into the theater.

"A Raisin in the Sun" starring Denzel Washington, Anika Nona Rose and Sophie Okonedo won the Tony for Best Revival of a Play and Sophie Okonedo won the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Play.
