Syleena Stands By Blue Ivy Hair Comments

Last week R&B Divas star Syleena Johnson got caught up in the Blue Ivy hair controversy after she compared the baby's head to rapper Old Dirty Bastard's [click here if you missed that].

Syleena stands by her words, but says it was just jokes…

Syleena tells Bossip,
“They brought up a picture of the girl's hair...the girl's hair was off the chain…but she is the cutest most adorable baby.”
“But I’m just jokes. In real life I’m a Beyonce stan. In real life I love Beyonce and her daughter is too cute.”
“Me, Tamar and KeKe we love Beyonce. We love her baby, but the girl's hair wasn’t combed and you know what? A lot of our baby’s hair don’t be combed, we just caught hers.”

This hair controversy is ridiculous and needs to stop. The child is two years old - who cares? Beyoncé needs to braid the baby's hair up like most little black girls and call it a day.

Meanwhile a head full of some white woman's chemically treated hair sits on top of her nappy mane. Why any grown woman would talk about a child (any child) in any fashion for jokes is a little insane. What she needs to do is focus on herself and put out some music because honestly, I didn't know who she was until I saw advertisements for that show (and I still don't know what she does cause I don't watch it).

We just said comb not relax it with chemicals!Every type of hair texture needs to be brushed and combed! That Is all!!.

Why is hair such an emotional, mental, social, cultural, and psychological issue for majority of Black women? Instead of making this clean post into another immature, perpetual 'We hate Beyonce, her husband, and her daughter' post, why not intellectually and HONESTLY discuss why we, as Black women, feel the need to be so strung out on our hair, fake hair, and perceptions of Black hair?

Why are we our hair? Why do we spend billions on hair? Why do some of us feel the need that we have to have a certain style and texture of hair? Why does it matter if a Black baby's hair is combed (to our personal and very insignificant preferences) or not? Why?

Awww, shit here comes the good hair vs. bad hair/nappy hair/race/Diabetes Unbothered comments.

Syleena looks pretty in that picture. She is a pretty woman. She just need to lose some damn weight.

Syleena was wrong to point out the obvious, we know DCFS wouldve been called if Jay & Bey still lived in the projects.
Everytime i see cute Lil Nori West I realize there is something seriously wrong with sullen BluIvy and her perpetual blank expressions.
People need to realize and accept the fact that they are just a ghetto-to-the-bone couple and let them do them.

Comb the child's hair. Point, blank, period. Really people if any of you saw a child out in the street with her hair looking like that you all would shake your head and mumble something under your breath.

Anonymous said...

What it boils down to....REALLY boils down to...is that Jay and Bey are becoming laughinstocks in the industry. That's all there is to this. No one is really that pressed over BIC's hair. Yeah, we see it, and comment, but I think the root of the matter is people are tired of the JayBey asskissing and also, there is legitimacy to the fact of BIC's hair needing better care.

JayBey should just drop outta sight right now before things get even worse.

11:46, your questions are so honest and refreshing, but no one will answer them because there are very young-minded, immature people on this blog, there are very dismissive and self-hating people on this blog, and there are very uneducated, dishonest people on this blog. Your questions are best for a Black Hair Forum, a conference for Black/African peoples, etc. I appreciate your comments because I see what you're getting at: the truth. But you know that the truth is not very accepted or wanted by *some* people. Thank you though.

I wear my hair loc'd and right now it's in a high bun. I've been natural since birth and wouldn't have it any other way.

Just jokes, about a defenseless two year old. Bey's hair don't be combed, I didn't see her talking about that.

Apparently some of your natural hair is so thick that it cant allow common sense to sink in through some of yalls head, so we'll say this again:

No one is knocking natural hair, on BIC or anyone else. Even my little pun uptop about natural hair is not an insult, but a compliment, if you read it right.

What people are saying is that Beyonce is not taking care of Blue's hair properly. Whether Blue was relaxed or natural, people will call it out. If Blue had a RELAXED HEAD full of unbrushed and wild dead, thin and dry split ends, people would say something about that too. If Blue had mixed people type hair, and it looked dirty, oily, and unkempt, people would say something about THAT too.

I almost wonder if some of the naturals are as secure as they say they are. Why look for EVERY opportunity to stand up on the soapbox if you are so secure? If you are so secure, why are you up in arms about something that is so clearly NOT about hatred of natural hair? Seems like maybe you are projecting your insecurities onto Blue and people's perception of her hair. Because any secure natural could look at Blue and see that people are NOT coming for her or the fact that her hair is natural....they are coming for THE LACK OF CARE.

WEIRD - is you. Angry and trying to insult totally random people for their thoughts on something that doesnt concern you, being that you are not a celebrity.

I mean, I just figure if you're so proud of your baby that you'll thrust your jacket open during an awards show where thousands of people are watching.......you'd also be proud of that same child 2-3 years later to make sure it looks presentable in public, especially being the pageant girl you are at heart! And now I'm done....

12:20 Okay, we know that but what you are missing is that no one is really coming for Blue (except for a few trying to be mean on purpose)

This is a bad reflection on Beyonce. Not Blue.

I'm a man and I've lurked on this site for years. I remember back in the days the Beyonce post use to turn into vicious wars of self hate & colorism. "I'm lightskin with long hair and you Bey haters are just mad cause you're dark and nappy headed" were some of the ridiculous comments I read. Now all these Beyonce stans who loved to brag how pretty and lighskinned they were and "drag" people making jokes about Beyonce "slaying" and "snatching edges" are the main ones championing the "be proud to be natural movement". Ladies, please do better.

THE REAL QUESTION IS WHY ON EARTH WOULD AN INTERVIEWER SHOW A PHOTO OF BLUE? WAS THAT MEANT TO START SHIT?????

IF I WAS BEYONCE, I WOULD BE PISSED AT THE INTERVIEWER WHO'S CARRYING A PICTURE OF MY DAUGHTER AROUND AND ASKING FOLKS TO COMMENT ON HER HAIR. ...NOW THATS WRONG

And it is the fact that Beyonce is a public figure that would never go out in public with hair looking like that and the bitch should know better than having her daughter's hair looking like that! It's a low down dirty shame! I called Beyonce all kinds of names when I saw that baby's hair. If she don't know how to comb her daughter's hair, hire somebody for her like you do yourself BITCH!

And whoever mentioned DFCS is straight silly. ALL them kids out there with dreads and you tripping over this?

Anonymous said...

Why are the majority of you so simple-minded? Who are you to aggressively project your perceptions onto someone else's child? I always use clear ponytail holders for my daughter's hair. Always. I NEVER use colored holders because the clear ones go with anything she wears. I wish a random, strange group of bitches would try to come for my child and I because they feel that I should use a variety of colored ponytail holders on MY child. You see how that works? Who cares if Blue's hair is combed or not? That shouldn't really be an emotional situation for people who will never meet her. SHE IS NOT YOURS.

She wont need to conform to the demands of beauty. She'll have what every warm blooded American would possibly DIE for.......money and mo money

Well-tended Loc's are a beautiful and versatile expression of black hair and the many possibilities...
BluIvy just looks like a neglected, untended bushbaby that makes you wonder are her parents trifling or just plain ghetto...
They invite/love this type attention... Blu Ivy is simply more non-promotion from the JiggaPimp.
Group her with Bey, Kanye, Timberlake, Keyes, Rihanna

The petition is ignorant and silly, much like the majority of Black people who signed it. Black people are always, always giving their time, attention, and energies to most useless topics and situations. Your coon ass signed a petition about a baby's hair, but won't sign a petition for your local and national governments to properly and adequately fund inner city schools, or to lower gas prices, or to extend unemployment benefits, etc.?

(kept is the past tense of keep)

So I guess naturally dark skinned people shouldnt bother to use lotion then, huh? If that's the logic you wanna apply to Blue's hair not needing to be on point, just because she's natural.

Anonymous said...

1:54 PM - I wonder if those who signed the petition for Blue's hair voted in the pre-election that just passed few week ago.
Blue's un-combed hair may not affect you, but when your city officials start cutting your city programs and cut funding costs for your local schools, your own children will be affected. Meanwhile, Blue will rcv the best education money can buy. This is the reason why Blacks should stay focused. Anybody can pull the wool over your eyes at any given point, and most of you will become distracted by anything.

Anonymous said...

Why do we *have* to use lotion? Why do we *have* to do our hair? I mean, who the fuck is making up these 'societal' rules? If a person chooses to not wear lotion or keep their hair laid, sprayed, dyed, and fried, that is THEIR prerogative. Black folks stay worried about what someone else is or isn't doing.

Anonymous said...

I find comments that basically say that, in the end, Blue doesn't need anything but all her money to be profoundly sad. Knowing you're loved and cared for as a child is worth more than all the money in the world.

There's something seriously wrong with a mother who spends so much time on her own appearance but takes no pride in her own daughter's. You're good at stealing, Bey, steal a page out of Mariah's "how to make your daughter look adorable" book, why don't ya?

Anonymous said...

Seriously, they could've just put a hat on that tragedy. Everyone around that child was too wrapped up in themselves to even put a lil hat on her head. When I was a baby, my mother would not let me leave the house like that, even just to go to the grocery store.

She probably wouldn't look so ugly if they combed her hair. Them mean looks she gives don`t help either. She never looks happy. I saw the short video of her smiling and laughing. Matty Knowles - we know YOU dont play that shit! You dont let anyone downtalk your kin, no matter what, right??

Bey...yo, Bey, you're her mom so I know you will step up right? I don't give a damn how good this woman sings, after seeing her on the divas show, im so turned off by her attitude and her mouth. its nothing worst than a person who doesn't think before they speak or don't consider other people emotions but let you read them its hell to pay !!! I truly believe this situation about blue is much more deeper. This is not about a black girl's hair this is about the backlash against beymonster. TPTB have had enough of this fake couple and so have the public. That black woman that started this petition is a controlled woman from the industry trust me if she was an everyday black woman she would've been jumped somewhere or shot for this. This is an inside job and im not stupid enough to fall for the crap about this petition to make little black girls and women look bad cause of our natural hair. I see all through this bullshit and anyone that can't, is blind!!!

Remember that show HATERZ that had that black woman on there that didn't like kim k? Well people new her and come to find out she was an actress and black women started to organized against the show for starting to stereotype us as jealous of this naturally ugly hoe and it didn't work cause there were actually people who new this chick (from Facebook) and she was getting death threats. Nobody never heard from her again, cause im sure the show foot the bill to relocate her for safety. @11:46 AM Here's my comment to your question. First off, I'm not of mixed heritage. My siblings and I all have the same mother and father. Me and my sisters always had long, thick hair and never wore weaves. All three of us had issues with jealous black girls. Everyday they had something to say about our hair: do your mama got long hair? Do you have a perm? etc. I never could understand why they were so dam obsessed with my hair, until one day these brothas complimented me on my hair and told me he liked my hair. I saw envy in their eyes and I felt the jealousy and hatred they had against me and all the other black girls with long hair, whether they were mixed or pure black. I hope this gives insight to your question.
