First Look a Eddie Murphy as Dolemite

Earlier this month it was announced Eddie Murphy was producing and starring in a new movie about 70s blaxploitation filmmaker Dolemite for Netflix [click here if you missed that].

Here's a first look at Eddie in the title role...

...thanks to his co-star Mike Epps.

I don’t think this needs to be remade...

Eddie Murphy should've won an Oscar for Dream Girls.

I wish they would stop with the remakes of old movies. Let them use their brains and make something new. I'm tired of these retread movies.

@ 2:15 YES!!!! I really want someone to come up with an original concept. If you were a kid in the 80/90s you probably literally haven't seen an original movie in 25 years until Black Panther came out. All these new Hollywood types getting paid to copy someone else's homework

Man, Snitch just don't give one fuck about the details anymore. Wasn't the man's name Rudy Ray Moore???

I'm a pretty intense fan of this movie genre and I applaud Mr. Murphy for doing this. Snitch, not hating but you left out a lot of details. For one, Moore financed a most of his early films, and he did some filming on the fly because hiring a location scout was not in the budget. This is why some scenes look kind of unpolished because his crew didn't have clearance to shoot and there was no time for a re-do. Moore also went broke as blaxploitation films got played out and people didn't listen to comedy albums as often. According to the old HSK site, Moore was gay.
I think a biopic is good because Moore was ahead of its time and Netflix shows more original Black/AA programming than BET/TVOne/Bounce and sometimes, Aspire channel. Wasn't a fan of Moore but I will be watching.

@4:02 Thanks for the history tidbits. Did not know he financed his movies. Damn if Eddie Murphy don't look just like Rudy Ray Moore in this pic. I will be watching also.

This is not a remake. This is a biopic of Moores life. Big difference. Murphy is still the best. This is his thing. It should be really good.

I remember being at church on Figueroa and Rudy Ray Moore would be across the street at a bar filming one of his movies. Also met him at the airport once and he was so kind, very low key but super cool.

@1:57 PM

It's not a remake of anything. It's a biopic about Rudy Ray Moore aka Dolemite.

So are they going to include Lady Java on of the 1st transgenders in showbiz, or do you think with Eddie's past history they're going to leave it out?
