John Legend One Step Closer to EGOT Status

This week John Legend was nominated for an Emmy Award for his portrayal of Jesus in "Jesus Christ Superstar Live" taking him one step closer to the elusive EGOT...

If he wins John will become one of only 13 artists to win all four major entertainment industry awards.

John already has several Grammys, an Oscar and a Tony.

Whoopie Goldberg is the only Black EGOT holder.

no shade but he's just average to me, his voice is annoying as fuck, his personality is dry as graham crackers, and he's not a talented actor nowhere near the capacity of an elusive EGOT, but they insist on throwing all the awards at him so go off i guess.

...can't recall where I heard it but EVERYTHING he sings sounds like an old Negro Spiritual..and I agree.

I Can't said...

John Legend EGOT is cool. However, the powers that be have sure left (allowed) him to be the only black male R&B artist accepted in this modern/today's mainstream music industry. I need John to use his black and political activism to help more black male R&B singers get some mainstream music industry shine and get more music opportunities developed in the black music realm. He's the only black male R&B singer allowed to sing on the Grammy's stage and to get nominated for mainstream R&B awards for the last 5 or more years.

Gallant, August Alsina, Jeremiah, Tank, Mali Music, Tory Lanez, Daniel Caesar, Gregory Porter, Kem and others (insert names of your favs) should have the chance to perform at the same level as John Legend. Maxwell, Aloe Blacc, and Bryson Tiller will get a little mainstream shine every now and then but it can't compare to John Legend & Jason Derulo's acceptance or what Usher had. Usher was replaced with Justin Bieber and I thought Sam Smith was gonna replace John Legend but somehow John survived (he's talented but having Crissy Teigan helped in some odd way). I hate to say it, but back in the day, numerous black male R&B singers had more opportunities to enter the mainstream music industry back then than now. It's sad that even black mainstream music isn't celebrating or giving more opportunities for our black male R&B singers. Something has to change or black singers (male or female) will not exist anymore anywhere. It's already dwindled down to historic lows.

Hope he wins. He did pretty good. The lawyer from "Power" shocked me with his portrayal of Judas. Dude was dope too.

Not really a fan and don't own any music; but John Legend seems like a really cool cat. Just mild; real easy personality.
Get it brother and keep pushing.
