Tyler Perry Offers Job to Geoffrey Owens

This week Cosby Show actor Geoffrey Owens went viral after a fan saw him working as a cashier at Trader Joes and posted the picture online.

Now Geoffrey has been offered a job by Tyler Perry...

It all started after Fox News tried to job shame Geoffrey with a negative spin on the photo.

And then, after a huge backlash, this happened.

Damnit why did he have to publicly throw this man a bone. Some shit just need to be handled behind closed door or a private phone call.

i like Madea but sometimes i think she jumps on stuff so the media will pick it up. You will see a story on the news in ATL and then the next day. Madea paid for this or that. It is great but why does she need everyone to know she is helping someone.

@8:47

Because he wants to give him a Bone and a ( blow) job

Madea and his ever loving grandstanding ass. SMDH. I do really hope this works all the way out for Elvin. He has now become Americas favorite DAD while his father in law headed to fucking jail!!!

NOPE! I am with Tyler on this one. If Faux News can disparage this brother for all to see, then let them see a wealthy brother offer his support to him. We need to get in the habit of uplifting and taking up for our own.

White people are always talking about how we don't like to work, we are lazy, drug dealers, etc., but when they see a brother doing honest work that THEY feel is beneath them, they want to poke fun and roast him. Geoffrey probably getting some coins as we speak from this with interviews, etc. Nah, Tyler is on the right side of this one.

Coulda offered in private and celebrated publicly . Not making it about the media or YT just simply one brother to the other.

No shame here - RESPECT for this man.

A dignified way of handling this offer would have been privately, he did the same thing with Bobbi Kris when she was in a downward spiral and told the world what he was offering her cause Whitney was his friend,he told the world about scolding blue ivy and putting her in her place by outbidding a child, he jumped in on the Black Panther bandwagon and took some credit for a connection to it in his own mind
He uses a narcissistic saviour complex all for his own benefit
If your gonna offer him a job just do it without making the MAN feel like it's welfare

He was shamed on a public forum...and he got retribution on a public forum...so it seems appropriate that he gets a valid job offer that is in alignment with his retribution...on a public forum...

Aretha Franklin would do good things for people, and never wanted to take credit for it. Aretha just would make it happen quietly. Madea should take a page from her book.

So they are job shaming honest money now? what is wrong with working at TJ once your acting career cool off? at least he's not on drugs breaking into people's homes or committing crimes. Faux News should have been yanked off the air 10 years ago, that is the most racist, white trash, redneck hillbilly "news station" they are a disgrace to any real journalism, nothing but a bunch of klan members without their white sheets over their heads, while on the air.

He was probably working that job because he was sick of the depravity that exists in that industry.

That being said, I can see him as a character on The Have and the Have Nots...

They shamed him publicly, allow his redemption to also be just as public, but Geoffrey said during his GMA interview he's no charity case and would like a job offer based on merit. Man, go get that job and when you're done, let God use you with this platform for those working in retail.

He would great as a detective or a politician on The Haves & the Have Nots.

Did anyone notice how often the camera was on madea during Aretha's service? I didn't even watch the whole thing but it seemed like the camera took a shot of Tyler 2-3x every hour. Why?

I hope that this man does not refuse a good damn job because of pride. Maybe it was supposed to go this way. Now if them people would give that bum the 400,000 they raised for him.

The time for slave quarter secrecy is before it was splashed on Massa Headline Faux News. Like roaches, you have to shine a light on things to make injustices and disrespect scatter and disappear. What is Faux saying now that a wealthy black man basically said "I got you, brother?"

If you're gonna offer him a role, just do it and shut up - no need to make out like your some sort of saviour by treating him like a charity case.

Is that Jasper raging against Faux? A lil discreetness never actually killed a nigger shit. Calm the fuck down. It was not actually Fox that put him out there it was a nice black woman who is now claiming she is so sorry . But don't tell nobody.

I totally agree with those saying he was HUMILIATED on a PUBLIC forum so likewise, let the man gain his REDEMPTION on a PUBLIC FORUM, whether that’s through Tyler Perry or the General Public supporting him through the encouragement . “ A man who loves sleep shall reap poverty”

I’m a living witness that not all “high position” jobs are worth your peace of mind, sanity, self respect or happiness. And I’m still making good income by God’s Grace after leaving the last job.

Shut up at 2:57 you racist ass meth addict. Faux News picked it up and even tweeted about it.

The thing is that this is a reasonable man, who is working an honest job until he finds another acting gig. Acting is very competitive and the older you get the harder it is for both MEN and WOMEN. But society these days is used to seeing people who cooling careers decide to go on reality tv and make fools of themselves to get a check and keep their name in the light. There are many actors and actresses that work regular jobs until they are able to find jobs and opportunities in the industry they want. This is the sensible thing to do. An honest job is an honest job. No one should ever be put down for it.

And the second thing, WHY MUST EVERYONE NEED A CELLPHONE TO TAKE PICS? Why can't you go to Trader Joes, make a purchase and say "oh thats that actor from the Cosby Show" and keep it moving. Why must YOU decide to take a photo of the guy mid-day at his job to post on social media. The lady who took his pic is a huge part of the problem as well. She may not have meant anything by it but people need to learn that not everything needs to be reported on your social media.
