Kehlani Puzzled by Negative Reaction to Her Pregnancy

Last month queer musician Kehlani announced she was expected a baby with her gay bass player Javie Young [click here if you missed that].

Kehlani admits she was surprised by the backlash she received from the LGBTQ community...

Kehlani tells Nylon
"I’ve gotten everything from “I thought she was a lesbian” to “she was using queerness to promote her career, then went and betrayed us with a man” to “her baby father is just a sperm donor.” One, I never identified as a lesbian. I’ve always been pansexual. My first mixtape included songs about males, and songs about women. My first album had songs about a nonbinary ex, an intersex ex, and male/female exes. I don’t always make it a point to identify pronouns in the music because that isn’t the focal point. I think what steered everyone in the direction of categorizing my sexuality (which is still really narrow-minded) was my song “Honey,” and a couple of the features I’d done after."
"...I never woke up and decided to be the “queer icon” of the century."

No offense to anyone who is gay. But it seems like if you don't fall in line and align yourself with the LGBT community, they are coming after your throat. To me, sometimes this PARTICULAR group comes off as some bullies and they operate in a gangsta or mob type mentality. Sometimes they get on my nerves.

Sometimes I think these musicians play gay for pay.

Offense taken, but it's nothing new.

There are bullies in every group—be they politicians, doctors, teachers, celebrities, posters on gossip boards.

Lesbians like me should be more accepting of people in the LGBTQ communities. We can be very harsh, but that's due, in part, to the world being excessively harsh on us (if you wanna step with us and get our support, then you gotta step right).

We should support anyone who wants to have a child—naturally or by other means—it's not my business who she beds or why. Bi-sexual and pan-sexual women who go to bed with men have every right to stand under the rainbow flag as I do.

And I'm sure we don't get on your nerves any more than you get on ours. And so it goes.

LGBTQ can never ever ever play victim anymore, always viciously attacking somebody. Side eye

LGBT is a joke. As much as they fight to claim their asses are good parents to children who don't have parents they look stupid attacking a woman who conceived naturally and identifies herself as pansexual.
She has every right and as of today I don't give two shits about them contradicting ass faggots.
They made AIDS/HIV and its struggle to live by taking meds for the rest of your life the new normal.
Walking deteriorating bodies that wont ever be normal because people are careless.

@11:17 I'm a lesbian and I agree with you that these groups do come off as bullies. My guess is we(LGBTQ) have similar needs yet we have different agendas simultaneously. I dont see anything wrong with Kehlani and her gay friend deciding to start a family. As long as they nurture, love & support their child its nobody's business. All these Unconventional broken & dysfunctional homes out here.

Why do they deserves special treatment? I don't yell from the rooftops I'm straight but thry want to shove their sexuality down our throats. Be gay/Lesbian and all of them other alphabets who cares. Just donlt expect special treatment cause at this point nothing you guys are doing is special. BTW if she did not force her sexuality on us how would we even know she was pan, bi or whatever??? Keep the shit to yourself

What you do or prefer in your bedroom has nothing to do with me. Just do what you gotta do, and let me do what I gotta do.
