Get ready to say goodbye to Tyler Perry's signature character Mabel "Madea" Simmons...

From Vegas News
Actor, playwright, filmmaker, and comedian Tyler Perry has announced the final stage tour for his beloved character “Madea” with Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Farewell Play Tour.
The nation-wide tour will kick off in Oakland, Calif. on Jan. 18, and over the course of four months, Perry will bring his beloved characters to venues across the United States.
Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Farewell Play Tour will be Perry’s 21st stage play. In addition to Perry, the play will star Tamela Mann, David Mann and Cassi Davis.
Perry made headlines last month when he announced that he would be hanging up Madea’s wig in 2019, with the expected final stage play and the upcoming film Madea’s Family Funeral, being released by Lionsgate on March 1, 2019.

'Bout damn time. I'm so sick of him and Medea. It's a shame that the most famous black older woman character in films is a cross-dresser. I think that says so much and none of it is good.

And it's also a shame how Perry bastardized Ma'Dear. It's a term of endearment reserved for black matriarchs. It's short for Mother Dear and he changed it to Medea. Good riddance, Medea.

I like Tyler Perry. I enjoy Madea plays and think they are funny. I might actually try to go to one since its the last one. The singing, lessons, getting people to get dressed nice and go to plays. Don't see nothing wrong with that.

The name Madea is also in Greek mythology a witch of enchantment, which his ass clearly is. It's been a good run time to wrap up that tired ass character.

I like Madea and so do a lot of other folks hence the success he has had.. may be a bad idea to kill her off.

alot of folks in the south had used Madea for YEARS, DECADES, before Tyler made those plays - but yes, the original Ma' Dear is so refined...

In my family In Mississippi and Tennessee Ma'dear has always been pronounced Medea or Medear with a soft "r" but it was always short for Mother Dear until Tyler erased the history of the word by changing the spelling of the word. I'm hot about this because there are few respectful titles black women have, particularly elderly black women, and this seems to be just one more thing we've taken from our elders.

And, a lot of people used to like Amos and Andy. I have ancestors who sat around and chuckled at that mess. The day is coming when Medea will be tossed in the same bin as Amos and Andy.

When people think of black women they think of Lil Kim, welfare mothers and Medea (a cross-dressing man). Me, my mama and my grandmama are more than that. So much more.

Tyler can ride out on the horse he came in on.

And, I don't have a problem with cross dressing. Not at all. I support fluid genders and cross genders. My problem is that cross-dressing Medea is more famous (and accepted!) than Cicely Tyson, Pam Grier, Dianne Carol, the late Ruby Dee, Angela Bassett, Paula Kelly, the list goes on.
