De La Soul Walks Away From Talks with Tommy Boy Records

Earlier this year 90s rap group De La Soul went public with their battle with Tommy Boy Records over the rights to their catalogue [click here if you missed that].

De La Soul has given up the fight...

This week the group announced on Instagram they could not come to an agreement with Tommy Boy and were walking away from negotiations empty handed. They also encouraged fans NOT to buy or stream their music with the hashtag #DontPressPlay

Honest question: Does Tommy Boy own the rights to George Clinton's song? I mean De La Soul was dope but Me Myself and I was a smash because of that sample.
