Mo'Nique Suing Netflix for Gender Discrimination

Last year comedian Mo'Nique launched a boycott against Netflix accusing them of paying her less than her counterparts [click here if you missed that].

Now she's suing...

Poor baby...dude got her out here looking all kinds of foolish. Wonder if any of her comedian friends have tried to set her up with better management.

I applaud Monique for doing this. The $500,000 they offered her versus $13 million that was offered to Amy Shumer is a huge difference. Monique may have a more narrow appeal because she’s black but she does have a longer resume of work including sitcoms, her own talk show, and several movies. She won an Academy Award (Precious), was nominated for a Grammy (Best Comedy Album) and an Emmy Award (for HBOs Bessie). People don’t like her methods, tactics or her husband/manager but her body of work can’t be minimized. She’s quite accomplished. I think 500k was a very low ball offer and I could see her scoffing at it. Unfortunately, I do think it was due to gender and race. Will she win the lawsuit? I don't know. These things are very difficult to prove. But I think it’s a good of her to even bring suit. Sometimes just filing and putting that pressure on these companies brings about change due to the increased negative publicity about it. She may not directly benefit but I’d bet next time they are in negotiations with a black actress/comedian, they won’t low ball them in such an egregious way.

I believe Monique thinks her Oscar win entitles her to demand a certain amount of money. Reality check: It doesn't. Cuba Gooding Jr won an Oscar too but Hollywood isn't beating down his door. And the reason is simple. Accolades alone don't make you worthy of a big paycheck; especially if you're not a consistent box office, TV or Netflix draw.

What the studio heads deem entertaining isn't what the general public considers a win. Nobody's flocking to see her, she's not that funny, and she doesn't have a history of selling out shows back to back to back (like Amy Shumer for example). She has an uphill legal battle to prove they didn't low ball her simply because she's not worth more money than they could make off of her. So good luck with that. Maybe she has more facts to prove her case but somehow I doubt it.

If nothing else, I respect Monique. She does the most, but she stands ten toes down and she's a fighter. Can't take that from her. May not be shit to you or me, but it's everything to her. She not around here sucking cock, or laying on her back and licking all kinds of clit to get ahead either. Plus, this is a 50 something year old woman that can't be tamed; a real grown woman. For every action she is indeed paying for it and she's still shouting to the mountain tops. I remember Monique from those Comic View days at BET (Over 20 some yrs ago)--so yeah, she's worth it and she's been in the game along time. Keep pressing!!

When you take that perm out of your hair you will get clarity. Ask Monique.

Please with all these long paragraphs people!!! Monique has no case!!! How is she being discriminated against and all these other black comedians are getting paid. 10:38 she’s suing for gender discrimination dumb ass. She wants to be paid more like the black male comedians and white women comedians but we’ll see how that works

Although she is waaay too extra sometimes, Mo is standing on principle. She is stating the wrongs, exposing the disparities and the industry discrimination. Her approach has not benefitted her in the moment BUT it will force them to eventually change how they are operating. The sista making it better for the next generation and you gotta respect her for that! If more blacks did that, our communities would be much stronger! All the best to this sister!

. . . and she looks great!

My guess is Haddish got more than her. She's younger and has more stuff popping. Monique has only been embarrassing herslef for the last 10 years. Say what you will about Tiffany but she did a special with all her friends and out other comedians on. She did not have to. Hell Kat Williams broke it down. He sells tickets so he got paid. Monique is not selling out arenas any more. Rock and Chappelle do stadiums. When Netflix sues for legal fees she'll be hurt.

9:49 AM Thank you!!!

Mo has her right to her day in court. Her resume is impressive. Amy Schumer is NOT funny. Dave Chappelle is, and he was given a second chance, why can't Monique?

Let her work, let her live. Pay her correctly.

Hope her suit is more successful than her boycott.

Show business isn't about points or seniority. It's about money and eyeballs. Get hot and they'll pay her. They also didn't have to compete for her services. There was no bidding war. The last guy who gave her a job got shit on by her. Nobody wants to do business with her. This suit will get tossed and she'll owe legal fees. She needs to worry about that tax lein she has. Write some new material

I thought that was a picture of the Brat. Monique does too much this won't work it all seems like a missed publicity stunt. They can offer what they like to if she says no then it's a NO. Now I'm starting to understand why they came in with such a low offer she is trouble.
