Tyler Perry Addresses Writers Room Backlash

Earlier this month studio head Tyler Perry infuriated the writing community after admitting he doesn't employ a writers room for any of his TV shows [click here if you missed that].

Tyler unapologetically defends his stance...

In a candid interview with Essence Tyler recalls his bad experience with using outside writers in the past, explained how he's uniquely in tune with his niche audience and that his pet projects will continue to be written and directed by him.

Tyler also revealed there are lots of other projects in production at Tyler Perry Studios that will provide opportunities for other writers, directors and show runners.

Yes, we are all very much aware of your crap, one note writing, Mr. Perry .

Happy that his other projects will employ writers, producers, etc. He's missing the point. As Rayski said, he's "one note." He needs new ideas, new directions and new energy. I don't watch his movies / shows because the writing is subpar. Why support that when I can support Greenleaf?

He makes sense to me.

Not sure how true it is but I read he doesn't have writers because they're in a union and he doesn't want to pay. Instead of breaking the bank to show a bunch of rich celebrities that new studio he should have used it to pay some writers for a decent script. Broaden your audience because right now I am NOT that. I hate those cheap ass soap opera storie . Hire Mara Akil.

Makes sense to me too. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Clearly it ain't broke because TP is rich as hell!! Those that support will continue to support, those that don't won't. Sounds like he's good with that. HA!

I don't watch Tyler Perry because like everyone said - the writing sucks. BUT why change it? His fans love him and he's not rich, he's wealthy. Bye ashy (that's what he's saying to us lol).

Be a boss and make boss moves. Mr. Perry said ain't nobody writing his shit, so guess what? Ain't nobody writing his shit. Move around! lol

I think his audience wants better writing. But put up with low budget low quality writing because there aren't too many other options for people of color. So we have to settle for Madea part 1000....

Well im not part of his niche group because I think most of his products are complete buffoonery. He has the ability to bring back the 90s magic of good black shows but chooses to produce trash

11:37am the same with his plays not using union actors to keep all profits

He lost me at “For Colored Girls” ain’t seen a Tyler Perry anything since. I don’t like his depiction of Black women in his shows and movies, almost as if he hates them.

He knows his core audience and that's who he caters to. Hey if it ain't broke don't fix it, ain't like his core audience is "woke". I'm not a fan, I have seen a couple of his stuff and enjoyed Diary of a Mad Black Women, to me his cheesy "Jesus is your only solution" shtick is tired as hell, the religious overtones given the debauchery deviant shit they do behind closed doors is hilarious. But hey I'm all for get money bitch!!!
