Haven't seen the film; but the book is really good as well. Congrats !!!
I sure LOVE MY HAIR.
My eight year old daughter saw this on YouTube. She loved it and insisted my husband and I watch it with her. It is absolutely wonderful! It brought tears to my eyes because she related to the little girl so much. She had the biggest smile throughout the entire short film and kept saying things like "That's exactly what daddy would do!" I just appreciate Matthew Cherry and all the others involved in making this. It is so important to let our children know from a young age that they are beautiful and their hair is beautiful just the way it is naturally. Kudos to the team behind Hair Love. Please, if you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it. It's only 7 minutes long but powerful. Please watch it and forward it to family and friends. This is the type of work we should support and help to get as many views as possible. Hopefully, the powers that be will take note and offer more opportunities for stories like this to be told.
Beautiful we need more like this, this is me and my 12 daughter who wanted locks like me, only now she wants to cut her locks off, she say's it's too much work to keep it groomed, she want's to go back to her afro, I told her even when she had her afro she complained, as we are extremely tender headed and out hair texture requires a lot of love. This is what positive role models are about for the younger generation, and show's a black father is a good light. well deserved win Nubians gwaan tru!!!
Whatever.
They're doing what they can to shut black folks up, so they can distract us more.
The book is adorable but these whites are transparent; they know most black people lap up white validation like stray feral cats to a puddle of milk. So they're throwing a bone. Fuck the Oscars.

Bitter much?
Haven't seen it but I'm all for anything that teaches our Black children to love themselves ... all of themselves, from their heads to their feet. I'll have to check this out.

I'm not bitter, sheep! I just said the book was adorable! But I don't give a fuck about the OsKKKars! So go somewhere!
The short film was so sweet. The ending made my cry. Yes, we need to love our hair in its natural state.
The wigs and weaves have got to go!! And, telling our youth to cut their locs. Stop that shit!
Father's getting an Oscar for a film about what Mother's do every day. But don't mind me.

We're not.
