Keri Hilson Says Label Forced Into Beyoncè Beef

Over a decade ago Keri Hilson made a remix to her song "Turning Me On" where she allegedly dissed Beyoncé kicking off a bitter rivalry that would last for years [click here if you missed that].

Now Keri claims her label forced her to do it...

In an interview with Claudia Jordan on Fox Soul Keri Hilson says her label hyped up the beef between them and that she too young and not secure enough in her career to refuse.

I believe her, sadly it ruined her career.

She still could keep righting songs to others.

^^^ nobody probably didn’t want to work with her because of the beef. Which is sad. People got all this loyalty to Beyoncé and the bitch barely acknowledge folks 🤦🏾‍♀️

First of all Kerri is incredibly beautiful. It's natural and comes from within. Secondly her looks threatened Beyonce's team and the "system" is set up to place WOC against each other. She's a gifted song writer and true coins come from being behind the scene. I met her when she was still in highschool when I dated her older cousin. She's truly a sweetheart. I hate she went through this but true talent will always shine through. People with real "sight" will always see it.

I so believe her, it is a coincidence that I was just thinking about what had happen to her yesterday.

Unless you are independent the record label OWNS you. They say jump and you say how high, if you want a career that is.

@12:08 I agree. And I hate what happened to Amerie also. smh

I like Keri. Beyawnce not so much. Her label took a gamble and she lost.

@12:08

You ain't never lied. Beyonce was pretty but Keri was GORGEOUS. Not only that, she didn't steal from other artists. Also she seems intelligent unlike Beyallaboutme. She's always been more interesting to me than Bimbo Barbie Beyonce.

I'm tired of the "Beyonce Era". Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Cardi B all need to fade into oblivion. They and their demonic handlers ruined the music industry for black female artists.

1:08 Great statement...not so much Cardi B tho?? I could stomach another 15 to 30 minutes of Cardi. Plus, as ratchet as they are at this point we have a selection of female MC's to pick from. But those other three can go all the way to hell. Ya'll can say what you may, but light skin has it's privileges too. The powers that be pretty much shut out much more talented individuals to let Beyonce, Riri and Nicki dominate waaay too long. folks say Nicki is a queen. Of course she was....Who else was given an opportunity? Riri, she's done great works in the community and Bey too, but they are subpar singers at best. Riri is horrible. But that's the politics i guess. And Drake too. His Jewish folks looked after him and he's no where good as Wale. I have to go back and Google; but someone just said Drake was the Michael Jackson of rap. Bullshit!!

Drake sucks!!!

Umm, sorry but Nicki KILLS everything she raps on!! She can change up her flow on so many ways!! And SHE WRITES her own raps and has a decent singing voice..

And she’s absolutely stunning!!!!!

All of the above true, the music industry is slime and Nicki should go back under her rock (with all the other puppets).

Ya'll is cracking me up today. Love it, and it's true.

It's really pathetic how the music industry only allows for one Top Dog at a time when it comes to women performers. It's their way of sending us a message that a) we're only perceived as worthy when we stand alone or side with them, b) being pitted against your own defines how important you are, and c) success is limited to only a few of us at a time.

They never promote collaboration or cooperation and when they do (Brandy & Monica or Whitney & Mariah), they always make sure the public is aware of some behind the scenes cat fighting.

Beyonce was intentionally chosen to be the big star not just because of her talent, ambition and father's connections, but because they knew she'd conform and promote the European beauty standard since she's so insistent that her mixed heritage be recognized.

And that's why instead of forging business deals with up and coming brands that strongly represented Black people, she was doing ads for companies like L'oreal. Now how many Black women do you know rock L'oreal like that?

Good for Keri that she didn't stay down. She seems humble and grounded so she'll be fine.

@2:56PM Perfect, that was well said. Sometimes you have to pray for the wicked, the music industry have caved in and allow all these negative stigmas which resorted into selling s3x cause sex sells and people talk. They want the people talking, it's like an obsession. They'll have one agenda which is too sell. They're going for peoples'emotional flaws now not the uplifting to the soul music with nostalgia like the legends.

I believe her. AMERIKKKA HATES BLACK SOLIDARITY. ESPECIALLY BETWEEN BLACK WOMEN .WE SHIFT WHOLE POWER DYNAMICS AND AMERIKKKA KNOWS IT. DIVIDE AND CONQUER . AS LONG AS WE IN THE MIDST OF FIGHTING THEY LOVE THAT SHIT

@1:26

Cardi is trash and needs to crawl back into the demonic rat hole from whence she came. I hate that ugly hoe.

But I agree with everything else you said.

Its amazing to me that we know EXACTLY how we're pit against each other....yet and still..me do the same by comparing,contrasting and bringing down another...They're all talented in their own way and honestly...There's room for all of them...and more.I'm by no means a standard of either,but I feel it would be powerful if they collaborate...That would be how we go against the grain....

Sorry for the typos...This is some good weed....but my sentiments are pure hearted....

She needs to rewrite her narrative. Why does everyone who has an issue with the person she’s talking about have to air themselves out and say they’re depressed or this or that? It sounds like she’s always publicly confessing her sins to this woman she mentioned once.
She’s an artist and she can express herself as she chooses. People in Hollyweird are so afraid of their image that they’re constantly backtracking. She’s been talking this nonsense for years now.

^^^Right...Keri was feeling herself when she initially addressed this & she was very cocky about it like she wanted all the smoke. Now that ass humbled & wanna articulate the story...Should've had this reply feom the beginning. Truth always prevail.

@ms mac

Well stated.

Keri Hilson doesn't have star potential or a je ne sais quo personality, she's not a strong performer, singer, or writer. In fact, in the early aughts she was a step below Ashanti. An artist that should have never survived their one hit. Even if she didn't put out a diss record, her career wasn't going to go much further. Think about it. Back then, the top artists, outside of Beyonce / Rihanna, was Ciara, Ashanti, Keyshia Cole and maybe Mya...they were like 3rd tier artists that were cute but didn't have the full package. Ciara had energy and charisma, in addition to her dancing skills. Ashanti had Ja and Murder Inc to keep her propped up. Keyshia Cole had that MJB sanging shit on lock, even though she couldn't dance and had zero stage presence. Keri had Timberland, but he was just a producer. He couldn't really protect her. Keri was just an average artist that had decent (forgettable) vocals, she wasn't a great dancer or performer, and even in her alleged "strength" as a writer, she wrote in collaboration with other writers. Like how Beyonce will take a writer credit because of an "ooh, aaah". It's not like she was writing Diane Warren timeless classics where folks sought her out to write a song. Don't get me wrong, Keri had hits, she just was part of a team of 5 other writers. So, I'm not sure why folks keep praising her songwriting abilities because everything about Keri is basic or average at best. Including her looks....

Keri is full of it. She started the beef & she wants to blame the record label. She sent several songs to Bey to use on her 2nd solo album but Bey chose not to use any of her songs & she got mad & started dissing Bey. She wrote a check that her behind couldn't cash & now she wants to play victim.

Solange log off and go worry about your own half-dead career.

Why does it seems as though everyone comes to their senses when it comes to Beyonce? It's like hundreds of people working for her to get her, her potential. Then it's this working hard, how is it working hard when it's something you like to do passionately? I think Beyonce had a jealous streak back then trying to come up cause she had a vision to get what she want and who she wanted. So nothing like a song that was even written from a gorgeous woman like Keri was going to stand in her way. Since Beyonce has proven herself for whatever reason, especially with Jay Z I hope ALL this ending careers and mysteriously downfalls of celebrities is over, I think Keri kind of feel it, that's why she back out. Maybe Beyonce will do a collab with her sense she's on the bandwagon of things being righteousness.

@12:15 Keri wrote and recorded the verse on Usher's Love in this club part ll that Beyonce re-recorded before it was released...I used to think that's where the beef started but in hindsight I can see why Usher's label wanted to use the bigger start on the song, and how Keri's label tried to the beef tactic (that's work for so many male artists, ie 50 vs Ja) to promote her.
