Queens DA Rejected Jam Master Jay Eyewitness Testimony

This week Karl Jordan and Ronald Washington were indicted on murder charges in the 2002 assassination of Run DMC DJ Jam Master Jay inside his Queens recording studio [click here if you missed that].

Turns out eyewitness testimony has been available for 18 years...

From NY Daily News
Cops found the information given by the witness implicating at least one of the two men charged with the murder Monday to be solid, but the Queens DA balked at the idea of charging the crime on the word of a single witness, the source said.
The case began moving again once it was picked up by Federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York.

Jordan and Washington, both close associates of Jam Master Jay, are charged with murder and conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

The Queens DA should be fired if he/she has not already resigned or retired.

I understand why this happened. We're all up in arms about single eye witness testimony when it convicts an innocent black man. How many times has that happened? Too many times. The DA was being careful and I appreciate that. Had things moved forward and a jury didn't convict, the matter would have been dropped and the case would be forever closed. It sucks that the killers went free for so long. But, hopefully justice will now be served for really real.

I just hope that now they've uncovered more evidence so that the eye witness testimony can stand up as supporting evidence.

man I get it, but I wish the NYPD or the DA would have done some fucking investigation - this is the story I've always heard about the killing and this person has been identified for years...weird flex him posting Jay every year, I guess that was the guilt.

Lydia High the receptionist was the witness who identified the man who pointed the gun in her face. All these years they made her out to be not cooperative. She's been living in fear this whole time.

I understand why the DA didn't want to pursue the case solely on one eyewitnesses testimony but there's a whole lot of other evidence they neglected to follow up on. I also think the cops became plain old lazy and stopped following leads once they became discouraged by the lack of cooperation from other eyewitnesses who didn't want to "snitch." But you can't tell me there was no video surveillance or other forensic evidence to follow up on.

NYPD & NYDA only aggressively pursue cases they care about. And since this happened at the cusp of Giuliani's racist reign coming to an end and Bloomberg's gentrification takeover, I'm sure neither could care less about solving the murder of yet another Black man (famous or not) who was killed by one of his own people and was also a drug dealer.

It also tarnishes his name. Dealing drugs on the side is not a good look for the groups prestige. His family and friends knew he was dealing drugs.

I mean the “who killed jam master jay” documentary on Netflix already to you who the killers were 🤷🏽‍♀️ Police was just chilling waiting to confirm the suspects to the family and the world for 18 years. And they did it because they knew this murder was over drugs and that Jam Master Jay wasn’t just an innocent figure gunned down for no reason. It’s sad but glad the family getting closure
