The movie is based on E Lynn Harris' book or James Earl Hardy’s book?

His acting career is over so directing makes sense.

I read a bunch of those E Lynn Harris books back in the day and seriously I think that kept me personally from alot of foolishness...they are some interesting, entertaining cautionary tales.

I haven't read this series, probably too gritty for my old ass...

I hope he can direct better than he can act. The books are entertaining and full of factual escapade's.
