Will Smith Sits for a Red Table Talk Concerning His Treatment of Janet Hubert

Last week Will Smith and Janet Hubert buried the hatchet on their decades long feud after he got her fired from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air [click here if you missed that].

On Friday Will and Janet spoke face to face and Will speaks with a therapist at the Red Table about his guilty conscious after realizing what he put Janet through...

This what a lot of our families need to do. Ain't nothing like speaking on it, owning it, and moving past situations for the betterment of everyone.

Real talk..rainy dayz! Life is too short to hold that in and apologize 25 years later.

Did Janet get a chance to discuss what she's been going through? Or is this all about Will?

I still feel bad for JH. To loose her career as talented as she is, Janet will never get those years of income back. What happens next? Will somebody give a her a job now?

Beautiful Black women.

Janet blames Will. Janet blames her abusive husband. Janet blames her family. Janet blames Hollywood. At the end of the session Janet reiterates to Will that she will always be older than him and he will always be a "little boy", reiterating the false hierarchy that got her fired in the first place. Until Janet takes responsibility for creating her own circumstances her life will never improve.

willy you have waaaay more problems than this....good that you squashed your little beef-chicken, but your kids out here looking & talking like some nutcases.

Will could have easily said fuck it and had the reunion without Janet but he didn't. He faced some hard truths and that takes an enormous amount of courage. I hope this will be the beginning of many new things to come for the both of them. For Janet, the window of love is open and I hope it stays that way.

@9:35 he’s only apologizing because he got such a bad public backlash after that August entanglement situation. This is just an attempt by his PR to clean up his image and hope people forget about him crying while Jada was castrating him before the world.

I don't think Will really "killed" her career the way she said he did. She got plenty of gigs afterward. He may have done his dirt, but every time she opened her mouth publicly, it was to bash him. That actually makes her look bad on her own. I'm not trying to hire some bitter chick like that. First time she gets angry, she's all on tv and on the net, making me look bad. I'd bet that fear is a large part of what kept her from getting jobs, not just Will Smith. Just like Monique blames Oprah and TP for her lack of opportunity, no, her attitude did. I'm not saying that Will Smith is blameless, but you can't control what other people do, you can only control how you respond.

There are so many handsome black leading men on the rise that nobody is checking for Will. Retire already.

@10:19....WTF? Will shows no contrition. Even in her elongated pain, she shows more dignity and empathy than Will can muster. Although he admits his behavior, he's using the Hollywood version of contrition he's mastered throughout his career. Looking into Janet's eyes and listening to her divulge the depth of hurt and tragedy his words and deeds cost her, Will seems robotic, aloof. Scientology taught him how to process information without taking ownership. Particularly circumstances he's responsible for.

I am all for the transformation of trauma and moving on from the toxic past, healing forgiving and making amends. Good for them if this is sincere on the part of Will Smith, the cynic in me is *side eyeing* the "timing" of this coming into this new awakening. But hey if they are saying that what it is then good for them. Quite frankly I am over celebrities and their manufactured images.

Ok, amends made. Now move on.

@1:07 - Will didn't cause Janet's pain; she did it to herself. She herself has said Hollywood isn't checking for dark skin black women. If that's he case she should have played her position and got that check for 6 years instead of trying to pull rank on the star of the show.

I agree with earlier posts...it's time to make amends choose to forgive or choose not to forgive but end of day MOVE ON!!! Will may have been the start of her downward spiral in Hollywood, but just as I don't believe Tyler and Oprah killed Monique's career, I don't think Will was the sole person responsible for Janet's demise. She bashed him for YEARSSSSS! People notice that. If you are giving off that angry pissed off woman energy- that frequency will go into a room before you make in there. She was dealing with hurt and pain at home and unfortunately she took it to the set rather is was conscious or unconsciously. I just hope they have sincerely buried this hatchet.

No sympathy for her at all. The show was called the fresh prince of bel air and she knew who the star was. I think Janet was jealous that this "kid" was the star and she didn't like it. I'm sure Will was a confident young guy but everybody else got along with him. How hard did she try to find other jobs? Did she ever turn down work because she felt above the roles? I remember reading for years how she maligned Will's character and talked about his kids. She even tried blaming her son's suicide attempt on Will. As someone mentioned before, like Monique, when someone keeps bad-mouthing a past employer, future employers see exactly what they'll have to deal with it. Who wants to deal with that?JH needs to get her life together and start taking responsibility for her s*it and move on.

@8:09PM My thoughts exactly... If I was Will I would have paid her dust. She's taken victimhood to a new level. Alfonso didn't care for her either. Was everybody in the wrong but her?

In my mind, if he didn't cut her a big ass check, his apology is half-ass. He has had unbelievable success, and he cost her everything. The apology is nice and all, but he needs to write her a check.
