Octavia Butler's Kindred Coming to FX

The FX network has ordered a pilot for an adaptation of the science fiction novel "Kindred' by Octavia Butler...

From The Hollywood Reporter

FX's take on Kindred will center on Dana, a young Black woman and aspiring writer who has left her life of familial obligation and moved to Los Angeles. But before she can get settled into her new home, she finds herself being violently pulled back and forth in time to a 19th century plantation with which she and her family are most surprisingly and intimately linked. An interracial romance threads through her past and present, and the clock is ticking as she struggles to confront the secrets she never knew ran through her blood.

I hope this turns out well, but I wish they had started with Parable of the Sower by Butler. Still, Kindred is outstanding and this is better than nothing. At least more people will be exposed to her novels.

I remember reading this book my sophomore year at jsu. Kindred and Future Land by Walter Mosley has got to be my two favorite books. I hope this is a good representation like love craft country was on HBO.

Hip Hip Hooray, indeed... and I’m worried about FX letting us down, too. I only hope they get someone like Ava DuVernay to direct and as an advisor. If nothing else, it will pique interest in Octavia Butler.

Thanks for the tip on Future Land. Haven’t read Mosley in years, but will check this out.

It will probably last as long as runaway did. Runaway was a great show on FX but they caved to the complaining cave demons!

Not interested in slave or drug movies about our ppl. Its been over done. I am tired of seeing blacks portrayed in the same ole negative scenario's. I don't care how well its written. I want to see us in up standing positive roles. Nothing less.

I stopped watching slave movies years ago. I refuse to subject myself to this and walk away feeling depressed, angry and violent. I am too psychically sensitive I already can easily tap into frequencies of the painful past. I am over it.

I think a better choice would have been Fledgling. Very good and SciFi. Kindred was only chosen for the trauma Dana had to endure. We all know it.
