Now Tyler Perry's larger than life character Madea is coming to Showtime...
According to reports Tyler Perry has inked a deal with Showtime to produce a series based on the origin story of Mabel 'Madea' Simmons. The scripted series will follow Mabel, before she was Madea, during her early 20s after moving to Atlanta in the 1970s.
The surprising part of this story is that the series is being scripted by twin sister writing partners JaNeika and JaSheika James and NOT Tyler Perry, though he is the executive producer.
Fun Fact: The Madea character is loosely based on Tyler Perry's late mother and her sister.

I thought he was retiring that tired ass character? Madea has run it's course. Time for a new character he should play a black Perry Mason, he only look like that white man's jump off child.
I don't mind, get it.
I'll watch.

I'll definitely watch but only if the writing and storyline is good. Keep on climbing to the top Tyler and I especially like seeing you bring the younger talent with you.
What 4:22 PM said. Tyler Perry has built his own studio and hired most of the Black actors in Hollywood. What have you naysayers done lately. Ok not to like, not OK not to support and tear down!
I knew he couldn’t retire Madea. That’s his main money maker. Plus his gay ass love wearing the dress.
and still, only his star will rise. This man refuses to employ writers, directors, and producers consistently. I remember he posted all these scripts he wrote himself for like 3 of his shows. People, specifically artists, let him know that bs was lame.
